Super Bowl LVIII will be the NFL's first championship game powered by 100% renewable energy. Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, is reportedly the first professional sports stadium to integrate a custom energy dashboard that can control every electron that enters the facility. Powered by Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability technology, the dashboard allows stadium managers to optimize energy output and make sure none is wasted, including by giving them a precise time to turn on chillers to cool down the facility, according to Microsoft and Allegiant Stadium. The energy for this year's matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will be sourced in part from NV Energy’s 621,000 solar panel installation in the Nevada desert. Power will also come from Nevada-sourced wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric power. If you’re wondering, ‘Will this be enough power for the halftime show?,’ the answer is yes! According to NV Energy’s CEO Doug Cannon, this will be enough to power Usher’s performance and all the lights that come with it. The facility also deploys water mitigation and waste management technology that tracks every drop of water, down to the last flush, and ensures proper disposal of every pound of trash from a given event or game, according to Microsoft and Allegiant Stadium.
