Great news: “Irish Food History, A Companion” edited by @Irish_Cookbooks & Máirtín Mac Con Iomaire has just won Food & Drink Book of the Year @ the Irish Book Awards tonight. Full disclosure- I was one of the 25 contributors to the book.

@AskPTSB what’s going on? Phone lines are ringing engaged, website won’t accept upper case letters, and credit cards don’t work…….

@rachellaudan @Ballymaloe Yes, Irish-Franco would have been better, but it was actually Irish. The problem is that Egon Ronay, while originally Hungarian but became a British citizen in 1951, was writing for a British readership. This audience wouldn’t have thought “Irish cooking” possible beyond potatoes

@JDeclanM @Ballymaloe But the histories of the two are so intertwined that perhaps that's not so far off the mark. Irish-Franco might have been better.

Yes, that was a wonderful evening! The online book has 28 chapters, and I'm very honoured to be one of the contributors. My one is called "Eating Abroad, Remembering Home: Food parcels, 1845–1960" Get all the chapters here: arrow.tudublin.ie/irishfoodhist/…

Got this yesterday - a very enjoyable read and informative too. Funny thing, Ali verbalises what every Irish person knows innately, but we don't realise that we know it until we see it in print. Love it. Get it.

As a supporter of @CuanGreene ‘s Ómós Digest on Substack, I had the opportunity of attending a master class on knife sharpening by Filip Viskovic @indigoandcloth where he is also barista. Not only that, but Filip has taken some of my favourites to work on them. 🥳 Thank you all
