Back in 2023, "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" finally dropped — a Dracula prequel set entirely on a 1897 sailing ship. I’d waited almost 13 years for it. First scene: The protagonist is a 19th-century BLACK British doctor with a thick Cockney accent, looking for work in Bulgaria. His backstory monologue: “I was one of the first black doctors to graduate from Cambridge. Applied to every top hospital — no positions. Fought for my education, but they wouldn’t let me practice. So I took a job as royal physician to King Carol of Romania… my name reached them, but apparently the color of my skin had not.” From there, the wokeness piled on nonstop: Dracula brings a strong female to snack on. She needs a blood transfusion — and of course the black doctor knows exactly how to do it. A Russian crewman calls him a “darky savage pretending to be a doctor”… then gets eaten first. When the men can’t break down a door to save a child, the woman says “move,” grabs a rifle and blasts it open. The black doctor chooses the girlboss with the rifle to hunt Dracula, instead of the men. She leads the charge and saves the day. Dracula is apparently racist — he drains all the white people but never touches the black doctor’s blood. And by the end, there’s a black vampire hunter running around Victorian London. A potentially great horror movie completely ruined by woke casting and girlboss nonsense.
