@JohnSauer0 That's awesome. Hopefully it handles better than Foyt's Cup cars usually did.

@jcoker1 We were scoring our own car, but I see what your getting at. Pit data vs. scoring tower cards.

@JohnSauer0 I know at some point electronic scoring came in. What I’m wondering is about the individual teams did of timing their cars and the leaders.

@NickTucker70 @bakerracingpix His engines were more than sufficient, but were overheating the valve springs. They found it when testing different valve springs with paint marks. All the marks came out burnt. Added an oil line in the head to cool them & the problem was fixed. Timing was about when Dale left.

@TheSceneVault @SpeedwayScreens @DayzGoneByVTG Dad gave me this coat that he bought during Speed Weeks 1985. Wore it to mass Sunday before D500. Priest said, "And let's not forget to pray for those in the race today and I see we have one of the drivers with us." Dad said he looked up & preist was looking at him.

A Grateful Dead T-shirt has been auctioned for more than $17,000. Here's a serious question. What's the Holy Grail of vintage NASCAR apparel? @SpeedwayScreens @DayzGoneByVTG?

An original Grateful Dead T-shirt from 1967 sold for $17,640 through Sotheby’s on Friday, breaking the record for the most expensive vintage rock shirt sold at auction. datebook.sfchronicle.com/music/grateful…

@jcoker1 @TheSceneVault @SpeedwayScreens @DayzGoneByVTG I've been trying to find a replacement pinwheel for this hat for years (it's a 4 panel pinwheel), as the lining has disintegrated and the bill board is crumbling. Still love it though. Wore it to @RaceFairgrounds once but @toomuchcountry wasn't there that night...

English

@TheSceneVault @SpeedwayScreens @DayzGoneByVTG For me, it's the pinwheel hats. No idea why those haven't made a comeback.

@bakerracingpix I built that one a few years back out the AMT 1985 1/16 kit. Took a LOT of work to get the stance & look "right". Even as a Pearson guy, that car is still one of my faves.

@JohnSauer0 @RPMotorsports @OriginalSTP @DAYTONA @76 @pettysgarage @OfficialMOPAR I think there is only a small group of us 😂

The King & his Magnum. At the pumps at Daytona in ‘78. Richard would be behind the wheel of a Chevrolet before the year was out⛽️🏁 #CorinthianLeatherWasntEnough

@CBird73936300 @truegreenthumb When I moved to TX, I took a McNabb Redskins jersey to a Dallas area Goodwill. My money says it's still there.
English

@toomuchcountry @LilRedDave I didn't take it that way, but did want to let you know. My issue is I care about the history, but have ZERO interest for what is on track now. Last race attended was ATL in '05, I think, & I about slept through it. Looking forward to the SRX series, tho.
English

@JohnSauer0 @LilRedDave Really appreciate that. On re-read, my comment to LilRedDave sounded kinda bitter. Not meant to be. Glad those that click & read get some enjoyment. Just bit ironic that many folks desirous of racing history like NASCAR Throwback aren't willing to read about it.

New post. May 11, 1968: Rebel 400 at @TooToughToTame. The Blue Ovals were fast in qualifying. The Mopars led a chunk of the race. Curtis Turner returned. And good luck kids joined their dad & his cig in victory lane. bench-racing.blogspot.com/2020/04/may-11…

@toomuchcountry @LilRedDave I read most of them too, unless I'm busy when I see your post then forget to come back and read 'em. Appreciate the effort and insight.
English

@LilRedDave Appreciate your reading it. I dig the research and writing, but I think folks generally don’t give a damn about the posts about racing history.

@DirtyMoMedia Ellis Speedway west of Owensboro, KY. Grew up 2 miles from there & used to sneak in the back after it was abandoned to turn laps. Caretaker would see us & we'd hide under the trees grown over the wall & in the turns. Gone now. Family friend buried everything when property sold.

@jcoker1 @DirtyMoMedia I tried to go check it out last time I was in the area about 5 years ago. Drove past the end where turns 1 & 2 were, but couldn't see much. I'm sure there are ways to get in. Cool place.
English

@DirtyMoMedia Lakewood Speedway. Grew up about two minutes away. Was the site of The King’s first Cup win (until Lee protested.) And also the venue at the start and end of Smokey and the Bandit, featured in Part II. #LostSpeedways2

@MotorCities @DHSDetroit That's Oliver Barthel next to him, who later in 1901-02 helped Henry Ford develop his Sweepstakes race car. There is an oral history of Oliver Barthel in Ford's Oral Histories Archives that is a very interesting read.

#OTD in 1896, Charles Brady King drove his 4-wheeled vehicle for the first time. Featuring a 4-cylinder, 4-cycle, gas engine of his own design, Brady's creation was the 1st car ever driven on the streets of Detroit. A replica is on display at @DHSDetroit. #ThisDayInAutoHeritage

@DaveKirkland10 @8090sNascar @markmartin True. I just meant that there probably wasn't ill intent on their part. Sometimes the people signing those contracts are unaware of financial problems or sometimes unforseen things happen after committing.

@DaveFultonWrang Sorry for you and your family's loss Dave. Lost my 46 yo brother the same way. Lung traveled to brain.
English

@jcoker1 I was there at that race and at the time, was unaware of Stanley's condition. Was more concerned with Horton initially as it looked bad from where we were.
