@JohnSauer0 That's awesome. Hopefully it handles better than Foyt's Cup cars usually did.

Instead of watching the Daytona 500, bc I don't care & haven't for 15 yrs, I did some welding on the '82 Foyt Indy go kart and cleaned it up. Took a pic of it with my '82 Foyt Daytona car. Now I've just got to keep the kids from wrecking it.

@jcoker1 We were scoring our own car, but I see what your getting at. Pit data vs. scoring tower cards.

@JohnSauer0 I know at some point electronic scoring came in. What I’m wondering is about the individual teams did of timing their cars and the leaders.

Completely random question- I wonder what happened to the old scoring sheets teams would use in the pits during Cup races. They would usually time their car and the race leader. Guessing the data eventually got moved to computer, but I wonder if anyone still has the old data.

@NickTucker70 @bakerracingpix His engines were more than sufficient, but were overheating the valve springs. They found it when testing different valve springs with paint marks. All the marks came out burnt. Added an oil line in the head to cool them & the problem was fixed. Timing was about when Dale left.

@TheSceneVault @SpeedwayScreens @DayzGoneByVTG Dad gave me this coat that he bought during Speed Weeks 1985. Wore it to mass Sunday before D500. Priest said, "And let's not forget to pray for those in the race today and I see we have one of the drivers with us." Dad said he looked up & preist was looking at him.

@bakerracingpix I built that one a few years back out the AMT 1985 1/16 kit. Took a LOT of work to get the stance & look "right". Even as a Pearson guy, that car is still one of my faves.

@toomuchcountry @LilRedDave I didn't take it that way, but did want to let you know. My issue is I care about the history, but have ZERO interest for what is on track now. Last race attended was ATL in '05, I think, & I about slept through it. Looking forward to the SRX series, tho.

@JohnSauer0 @LilRedDave Really appreciate that. On re-read, my comment to LilRedDave sounded kinda bitter. Not meant to be. Glad those that click & read get some enjoyment. Just bit ironic that many folks desirous of racing history like NASCAR Throwback aren't willing to read about it.

@toomuchcountry @LilRedDave I read most of them too, unless I'm busy when I see your post then forget to come back and read 'em. Appreciate the effort and insight.

@LilRedDave Appreciate your reading it. I dig the research and writing, but I think folks generally don’t give a damn about the posts about racing history.

@DirtyMoMedia Ellis Speedway west of Owensboro, KY. Grew up 2 miles from there & used to sneak in the back after it was abandoned to turn laps. Caretaker would see us & we'd hide under the trees grown over the wall & in the turns. Gone now. Family friend buried everything when property sold.

@jcoker1 @DirtyMoMedia I tried to go check it out last time I was in the area about 5 years ago. Drove past the end where turns 1 & 2 were, but couldn't see much. I'm sure there are ways to get in. Cool place.

@DirtyMoMedia Lakewood Speedway. Grew up about two minutes away. Was the site of The King’s first Cup win (until Lee protested.) And also the venue at the start and end of Smokey and the Bandit, featured in Part II. #LostSpeedways2

@MotorCities @DHSDetroit That's Oliver Barthel next to him, who later in 1901-02 helped Henry Ford develop his Sweepstakes race car. There is an oral history of Oliver Barthel in Ford's Oral Histories Archives that is a very interesting read.

#OTD in 1896, Charles Brady King drove his 4-wheeled vehicle for the first time. Featuring a 4-cylinder, 4-cycle, gas engine of his own design, Brady's creation was the 1st car ever driven on the streets of Detroit. A replica is on display at @DHSDetroit. #ThisDayInAutoHeritage

@DaveKirkland10 @8090sNascar @markmartin True. I just meant that there probably wasn't ill intent on their part. Sometimes the people signing those contracts are unaware of financial problems or sometimes unforseen things happen after committing.

Mark Martin and his Apache Stove ride!! Nice looking car and rig, too bad the sponsor didn’t live up to their end of the deal.

@jcoker1 I was there at that race and at the time, was unaware of Stanley's condition. Was more concerned with Horton initially as it looked bad from where we were.

Condolences to the family of Stanley Smith, who passed away this morning according to reports. Sadly, Stanley is probably most known by Cup fans for being in the Jimmy Horton Talladega crash in '93, and for surviving the basal skull fracture that would claim many others.
