@lewis_goodall Just imagine the economic bonanza of rejoining the EU. The signal it would send to the world that we are now a serious country again ready to do business.

I just think taking all of the EU’s rules while have absolutely no say in any of them is the worse of all possible worlds, one Remainers and Brexiteers should be united against, at least if we lived in a sane world.

It’s one thing to say you won’t join a military action. That would have been fine and no one would have been upset. But Starmer denied America access to its own military bases after Americans funded Britain’s security for the past 85 years, bailed the country out in two world wars, and footed the bill for global security, including the protection of trade routes. What Starmer did is completely insane, and if anyone in London has even a semblance of sense left, they will get rid of this guy as soon as possible.

@ITVRugby ITV rugby jinx, the fact I have to put up with you broadcasting all England games is almost enough to support Scotland. P.S. Borthwick needs sacking and replaced with a coach that has an imagination.

@BBCPolitics Uni education goes beyond just preparing individuals for specific jobs; it equips students with critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills to navigate challenges and contribute to society. While course quality varies, restricting options hinders diversity and growth.

It is a heavy, unfair burden to ask the people being disrespected to be the 'bigger person' while the person doing the disrespecting is coddled. When we prioritize the comfort of the offender over the dignity of the victims, we aren't being compassionate we’re being complicit. Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo shouldn't have to 'push through' dehumanization for the sake of a smooth broadcast. The lesson here is that grace without accountability is just permission. We have to stop expecting one group to swallow their pain so everyone else can avoid an awkward conversation

Asking for more grace for the person who shouted a racist slur instead of for Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo, who had to push through being embarrassed in front of their peers. But that’s often the expectation — that Black people are just supposed to be ok with being disrespected and dehumanized so that other people don’t feel bad.
Variety@Variety

#BAFTAFilmAwards host Alan Cumming thanked the audience for their “understanding” after a series of audible outbursts from Tourette’s campaigner John Davidson interrupted the ceremony. • One incident saw Davidson shout the n-word while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were on stage. • Davidson, the inspiration for BAFTA-nominated “I Swear,” was diagnosed with Tourette’s at 25. His symptoms include tics and involuntary outbursts. • “You may have noticed some strong language in the background there, this can be part of how Tourette’s syndrome shows up for some people as the film explores that experience,” Cumming told the audience. wp.me/pc8uak-1lGWhl

It’s infuriating that the first reaction wasn’t complete and full throatted apologies to Delroy Lindo and Michael B. Jordan. The insult to them takes priority. It doesn’t matter the reasoning for the racist slur.

@HannahEBeachler In the hierarchy of victimhood, where do people with verifiable documented disabilities sit? He couldn't control his speech. He'll be as distraught and angry as you are claiming to be. By attempting to blame him for his outbursts, you are in fact discriminating against him.

I keep trying to write about what happened at the BAFTAs, and I can't find the words. The situation is almost impossible, but it happened 3 times that night, and one of the three times was directed at myself on the way to dinner after the show.

The government must agree to create a new category of Extreme Criminal Protest Group to make it easier to ban groups like Palestine Action without necessarily labelling them as terrorists. Ministers should accept my amendment in the House of Lords.

@NicholasTyrone The US would be burning all bridges, can't imagine Japan, South Korea, Australia etc would continue their alliances with the US. It wouldn't be worth the paper it was written on. It's one thing to kidnap a 'narco terrorist' it's quite another to invade an allies territory.

What does the Trump administration take into account when deciding how to judge countries on freedom of speech? The State Department’s Sarah Rogers tells @thetimes “‘I think another prong of the strategy when you talk about Middle Eastern countries is we also want to consider the history and trajectory of a country,’ she said. ‘So if it’s the case that in Britain and in Saudi Arabia you get punished in each country for blaspheming Islam but Saudi Arabia is moving incrementally away from that behaviour and Britain is incrementally intensifying it then we might respond differently in each case’.”

@BBCBreaking @BBCNews It's inevitable that there's going to be some sort of confrontation if their fans arrive in numbers for the game. I wonder how no10 will respond then? Will they blame Villa fans, pro Palestine groups, will they blame Brummies or will they dare to condemn Tel Aviv fans?

@dave_mcpartlin Kids are being brought up by nursery schools not parents. SEND is a symptom of failed parenting. In the past Children started school ready and able to learn ever increasing complex subjects, now they arrive as toddlers barely out of nappies.

I must have spoken to well over 100 headteachers across the country recently and they're all saying the same things: Many, many more pupils with complex SEND needs. More challenging behaviour and at a younger age. Too little specialist provision. Frustrated families. Social Services bar too high. Public services skint and burnt out staff. No real Ofsted reform. Falling birth rates. People are angry. Communities in despair. Funding that’s nowhere near enough. Schools are holding the system together but it’s becoming unsustainable - they can't keep asking more and more of staff, with less and less. Something has to give. Without urgent reform and real investment, I'm worried that this could be the year we've all known was coming and education finally breaks.

What an interesting way to out yourself on social media. Admitting to regularly watching an avowed right wing commentator who despised LGBT people, wanted women to basically stay in the kitchen and hated any form of diversity. A future GB news host by the sound of it!
Laura Woods@laura_woodsy

I really can’t get out of my head what has happened to Charlie Kirk. I watched him a lot, not because I agreed with everything he said, but because he was an absolutely formidable commentator and could debate in a relentless, yet respectful way. Shot in the throat for using his voice. I’ll never get that image out of my head. Horrifying.
