These questions are not uncommon even when applying for a short-term visa. Given how difficult it can be to travel to conferences, I’ve learned to use my writing to participate in scholarly conversations.

The discussion on conferences and visas really resonates with me. Planning to go to a conference in Canada and spent >3h yesterday providing the exact dates of all the places that I have lived in, jobs that I have had, and countries that I have been to in the the past 10 years.

How can teachers and schools support students’ growth mindset? Our new study highlights the promise of guided inquiry and a focus on developing the whole child, as well as the potential risk of ineffective task differentiation sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Anyone is submitting to #SRA2022 ? I have a project on gender and adolescents' STEM choices. Let me know if you are interested in presenting together! Any work on gender and STEM would be great.

#SRA2022 submissions are approaching! Symposia can be hard to coordinate, so want to create a space where you can connect with others in your field to help with the process. Comment here with your topic area to network with colleagues who may be interested in joining your group!

I review a lot of LCA/LPA papers. On this 🐦 app, I once saw someone say that these analyses almost always result in “mild, medium, and spicy” classes (so don’t over-interpret them). I’d never put that in a review, but damn... that’s a handy framing.

I am really excited to share a theoretical review that is forthcoming in Social and Personality Psychology Compass. In it, I argue that persistence in daily life is really about *returning* to our goals rather than *never giving up* on them. psyarxiv.com/b8pxq

Our latest paper is out. Young people who reject traditional gender stereotypes are more motivated, engaged, and achieve higher grades in GCSEs. (with @RosMcLellan and Liz Winter). Available open access here: doi.org/10.1007/s10964…

@martynsteiner @RosMcLellan Thanks! We did control for pupil premium status and it didn't change the results. PP status was also not linked to boys' pattern of gender role conformity. Obviously PP is only a rough proxy for disadvantage so perhaps a different SES indicator would reveal different results.

@Junlin_Yu @RosMcLellan Really interesting. Did you control for socioeconomic status? Is it possible that higher SES households are more socially liberally and so children are less conforming and that SES also explains higher achievement?
