Today marks the 15th anniversary of Ellen’s death. Here is a glimpse of what 15 years of trying to achieve Justice has looked like for Ellen’s family: 2011: Attempted to obtain more information from Philadelphia Police after the cause of death was abruptly switched from Homicide to Suicide weeks after Ellen’s passing. 2012: Reached to famous forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht on his opinion; Dr. Wecht published a report concluding that the death was “strongly suspicious of homicide.” 2013: After 25 years with the Pennsylvania State Police and FBI, acclaimed Private Investigator Tom Brennan starts leading Ellen’s investigative efforts on a pro bono basis. 2014: Larry Krasner, hired by Greenbergs prior to becoming the Philadelphia District Attorney, is continuously stone-walled by the Philadelphia City Solicitor after requesting documents from the city of Philadelphia. 2015: Former Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney Guy D’Andrea discovers that there is a specimen of Ellen’s spinal cord saved at the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office. 2016: Josh Shapiro is elected as Pennsylvania Attorney General, hiring Jen Selber as his Executive Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania. Jen Selber had previously worked on the Greenberg’s case while with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, blocking the Greenbergs from accessing critical case files. 2017: Forensic Pathologist Dr. Wayne Ross examines the tissue in Ellen’s saved spinal cord and later drafts a report stating there was evidence of strangulation, there were bruises consistent with repeated beatings, and that the scene findings were indicative of homicide. 2018: World-renowned forensic scientist Dr. Henry Lee publishes a report stating, “the number and type of wounds and bloodstain patterns observed are consistent with a homicide scene.” 2019: Stephanie Farr and the Philadelphia Inquirer publish a front-page investigation into Ellen’s death, the first many Inquirer articles updating the world about Ellen’s case. 2020: The Justice for Ellen Facebook page reaches 10,000 followers and starts to gain international attention (with YouTube videos sprouting up in different languages). 2021: As part of the Greenbergs’ lawsuit against the City of Philadelphia, there are depositions taken of Dr. Gulino (Chief Medical Examiner of Philadelphia), Dr. Osborne (Associate Medical Examiner of Philadelphia), Dr. Lyndsey Emery (Medical Examiner of Philadelphia), the Greenbergs, and Sergeant Cooney (Police Officer of Philadelphia). 2022: The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office releases a statement that they will not overturn the manner of death despite the recent deposition of a Medical Examiner stating that one of Ellen’s stab wounds occurred after she died (proving it was not a suicide). The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office said that the Medical Examiner “misspoke” in her deposition. 2023: The Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court determines that Ellen’s parents do not have “standing” to bring their claim against the City of Philadelphia, forcing the Greenbergs to appeal to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. 2024: Tasked with investigating the case after Josh Shapiro admits to a material conflict of interest, Chester County uses an “expert” with an undergraduate degree in entomology (the study of insects) and a masters in criminal justice, but no medical training, to analyze Ellen’s case. 2025: Hulu releases a documentary on Ellen titled “Death in Apartment 603” – it rises to #1 on Hulu’s most watched list. 2026: New reports that the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania is engaging in a federal investigation of Ellen’s death. As Ellen’s mother Sandee said, “We used to lie awake wondering why this happened to us, to our only child. Now we ask how did we end up here, in this situation, years later, still asking for justice, still asking someone to care.” #JusticeForEllenGreenberg

Today marks 15 years since Ellen Rae Greenberg was murdered in her Philadelphia apartment. For 15 years, the City of Philadelphia has maintained that Ellen took her own life. Fifteen years later, that claim still defies common sense and the evidence itself. Ellen was a 27 year old first grade teacher. She was engaged and actively planning a wedding. She had future plans, responsibilities, and people who loved her deeply. She was found with more than 20 stab wounds, including roughly half to the back of her head and neck. Some pierced her spinal column and entered her brain stem. The knife was embedded in her chest. Multiple experts have stated that injuries like these would have immediately compromised her ability to move, yet additional wounds were inflicted afterward. Still, the manner of death was ruled a suicide. Not by a jury. Not after a trial. Not through an adversarial process. It was decided behind closed doors and has been protected ever since. Over the years, Ellen’s parents have become investigators themselves. They’ve hired independent forensic pathologists, filed lawsuits, and forced evidence into the light that never should have been buried. Renowned medical experts who have reviewed the autopsy have concluded her death was a homicide. Not ambiguous. Not questionable. A homicide. Yet the City of Philadelphia continues to fight, not to find the truth, but to preserve an indefensible ruling. This case isn’t just about Ellen. It’s about what happens when institutions choose liability over truth, when officials close ranks instead of reopening files, and when a family is told, year after year, to stop asking questions. Fifteen years later, Ellen’s parents are still asking for one simple thing. The truth. Please share Ellen’s story. @JusticeForEllen

We hope that our followers on the East Coast are enjoying the snow today! Tomorrow marks both the 15th anniversary of Ellen’s death AND a major blizzard hitting Philadelphia. Just like what's happening outside your window today, 15 years ago Philadelphia had 15 inches of snow, with NBC Philadelphia calling it “probably the greatest weather surprise in the past 10 to 20 years… an area of light rain, with light sleet north and west changed to heavy snow over most of the area in just ONE HOUR.” We’ve always thought that the snow impacted the actions of the authorities on the night of Ellen’s death. Hopefully, we will soon learn the truth. youtube.com/watch?v=0Hb1jn…

What does it mean that the feds are looking into the Ellen Greenberg case? Well, maybe, just maybe they detect the whiff of corruption within the city of Philadelphia, specifically the Pilly PD, the Philly Medical Examiner's Office, and the Office of the District Attorney. Or, perhaps, they are looking into whether or not Ellen's civil rights have been violated because of the actions of cops, MEs, and DAs in the city. Either way, I know of at least one subpoena that's been issued, though the US Attorney's office won't confirm or deny that an investigation has been opened. @JusticeForEllen @PhillyPolice @LarryKrasnerDA #ellengreenberg #ellenraegreenberg

Disingenuous. Unprofessional. Unethical.” — Sandee Greenberg on Larry Krasner in her daughter #EllenGreenberg case. We can’t ignore this any longer. #JusticeForEllen If you’re angry at how public officials handled this, demand transparency: release the full record, preserve evidence, and appoint an independent, conflict-free review. Justice is on the ballot. Vote, share the clip, and push for reforms so cases like #KadaScott and #EllenGreenberg never happen again. We have an option now, #JusticeForEllenGreenberg has an opportunity and that is @Duganforda

The death of Ellen Greenberg deserves another look. This case has become a black eye for our city. If elected as Philadelphia’s District Attorney, I will assemble a team of veteran homicide prosecutors and detectives and order a top‑to‑bottom review of all the case information available. Several law enforcement officials I’ve spoken to believe that obvious mistakes were made in the initial investigation. As DA, I believe it is my duty to review files from the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, and the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General so we have a complete picture of how Ellen’s case was handled. We will respect the work done up until this point, but scrutinize it with a critical eye to ensure our investigation is as thorough and fair as possible. My heart goes out to Josh and Sandy Greenberg and the rest of Ellen’s family. The Greenbergs, the city staffers involved with the investigation thus far, and Philadelphians deserve the truth - no politics, just facts.
