@popcultmag @mrjimBob I know, but a lot has changed since then. Anyone using it in more modern times needs to have a proper think about what they're doing. English people only, Americans have enough to worry about.

@mrjimBob @KatKremlin 😂 “Gotten has been in use since the 4th century in Britain and was used by Shakespeare. In Richard III he writes: With much ado at length have gotten leave, To look upon my sometimes royal master’s face.”

@HouseChambers @jpwarchaeology We're at the opposite end, putting on our own gigs with the support of local venues and a load of very nice independent shop owners who put our posters up in their windows.

@KatKremlin @jpwarchaeology I don't think people realise just how expensive touring is. They see all the stories about how much Taylor Swift makes. But forget that most bands tour at a loss.

Promoter: "James, come & do an event at our venue!" Me: "Great, let's agree logistics first." Promoter: "You hire the room, promote the event, and you're welcome to sell copies of your book so long as you give us 25% of the proceeds. We'll keep the ticket money." Me: F*ck off.

@KatKremlin @jpwarchaeology In my roadie days some people were selling unlicensed merchandise outside Shepherd's Bush Empire. So we got the truck driver to park the artic on the pavement. But the venue charged the band 25% of all sales inside.

Apparently it's National Teaching Assistants' Day. I'm a TA and I didn't know anything about it, which tells you everything you need to know. #NationalTADay

@megbernstein @TheIndex Interested to see the shield with 3 mascles. I've been trying to work out the heraldry on the Lyons tomb at Warkworth where there is a similarly arranged pattern of voided lozenges.

My followers are crashing... Because people are leaving this place? Because the algorithm is working against me? Because this site is blocking people from following me (that's already happened)? Please help me reach out to followers I've lost by RTing. And let's try to keep this a positive place to share news, views, science, history, kindness and love.

@DrFrancisYoung Pleased to discover this. Firstly because despite the fact my grandmother lived in Woolpit I didn't know anything about it and secondly because Ralph de Coggeshall frequently appears in documents relating to my Essex family history research.

St George and the dragon, St Anne's museum, Lubeck. The information panel said the dragon was originally larger but had to be resized when the sculpture was moved to a new location. Seems very unfair on the dragon. #herebedragons #stgeorge #medievalcarving
