This resolution, led by #Ghana, matters because the legacy of slavery is not past; it continues to shape racial injustice, inequality, and discrimination today. It acknowledges the brutal abduction, exploitation, and systemic dehumanization of more than 12.5 million Africans, and affirms that the world can no longer look away from the enduring consequences of this atrocity. By calling for reparations, accountability, and a global commitment to truth and healing, this vote is a powerful reminder that justice delayed is not justice denied. 📍Ecuador 🚨Due to growing concern about the deteriorating human rights situation in Ecuador, international human rights organisations conducted an observation visit to the country last week, leading to several concerning key findings: •Closure of civic space •Criminalisation and increased threats against human rights defenders, especially in contexts of extractivism or socio-environmental conflicts •Threats to judicial independence and a security policy based on the militarisation of the state’s response to human rights issues. ⚠️ #URGENTE El informe del Comité contra la Desaparición Forzada (CED) de la ONU revela graves vulneraciones a los derechos humanos en el contexto de estado de excepción y militarización en Ecuador y un grave contexto de impunidad. El Comité advierte, en particular, la falta de colaboración del Ministerio de Defensa en la entrega de información clave a @FiscaliaEcuador para la búsqueda de personas desaparecidas y la identificación de responsables, en incumplimiento de medidas cautelares de la @CIDH y de acciones urgentes emitidas por la @ONU_es, e insta a su cumplimiento inmediato. Asimismo, lamenta la ausencia de investigaciones administrativas sobre los casos de desaparición forzada denunciados y la inexistencia de sanciones internas al personal involucrado. De igual forma, valora la sentencia condenatoria contra 16 militares en el caso Malvinas impulsada por @FiscaliaEcuador y el reciente pronunciamiento de la @CorteConstEcu sobre el hábeas corpus instructivo. El CED también exhorta al Estado a garantizar la protección de las personas denunciantes, reconocer a las madres buscadoras como defensoras de derechos humanos y sancionar cualquier acto de injerencia por parte de personal militar en las investigaciones. Finalmente, subraya la importancia de cumplir con protocolos que aseguren el debido proceso y la integridad personal de las personas privadas de libertad al momento de su excarcelación, en particular en la cárcel “El Encuentro”. Celebramos la publicación del informe de la @ONU_es y exigimos al Estado ecuatoriano su cumplimiento inmediato.
