@Moshe_H_ Flags are meant to signal at a distance (quickly identifiable) and be memorable. That’s what they were designed for hundreds of years ago, and that’s what many of these “new” flags have in common. This isn’t a wave of reinvention, it’s rediscovery!

@Moshe_H_ Contemporary? Not necessarily. The #KeystoneFlag draws symbolically from PA’s coat of arms (dating back over 200yrs), and tricolor flags are hardly a new invention. When it comes to flags, design is a good value to have!

My daughter asked me to print out a picture of the Utah flag and some nice Utah pictures for a class project. When she saw the printout she said hey, that looks totally different than the flag in my book. Turns out Utah just changed their flag and it took official effect only this March! She took another look at it and said oh! A beehive, because it's the Beehive State! 🤩

@GuyAPerson @willrallison Heard. Just keeping in mind that Pennsylvania is SO much more than two cities and two regions… there’s at least six distinct regions that would take offense to being lumped in with another! Designing something for as many people as possible is a tough balancing act 😅

@KeystoneFlag @willrallison Black and yellow for Pittsburgh, blue and yellow for Philadelphia. They share the color yellow, so the yellow Keystone in the middle can be like a symbol of unity between eastern and western PA

Pennsylvania: like New York, unforgivably bad flag. The Keystone design is already gaining traction and it would be fine, though I do like the flags that also incorporate the liberty bell, cheesteaks or Ben Franklin Balling

@StephenJ_Caruso I’d feel stronger about how our state flag is folded if we had a better flag. If we got a @KeystoneFlag I would prefer it be folded so the keystone symbol is on top.

Proper folding procedure won’t matter to everyday Pennsylvanians who are never inspired to fly the state flag in the first place. Maybe we should start with adopting a design people are already embracing across the Commonwealth: KeystoneFlag.org
