@AnfieldEdition He should have moved him into the middle after Isak got injured. Salahs legs are gone but with Wirtz behind him and Hugo on the left we would've been better.

Slot on Salah: “So many good players around the world [and] he's definitely one of them in the last 10 years, that everybody talks about being one of the best there is and was in the last 10 years. To show that hunger every three days, that professionalism, that commitment to the club, to the team, to wanting to score again, always wanting to play – when you take him out three minutes before the end, he's like, 'Maybe I could have scored one extra!' – that is what stands out for me.”

As someone who watched Carragher's full career, here's my honest take: He shone in his 98/99 breakout season as a centre-back, winning LFC POTY. Houllier didn't fancy him there and converted him to full-back (mostly left-back), where he rarely crossed halfway. He was heavily linked with Aston Villa at this stage. Benítez transformed him by moving him back to centre-back. From 2005-2009, he was as good as any defender in Europe. Not quick enough for a high line, but brilliant defending deep. He rarely had a bad game and always gave 100% – pure John Terry mould. A very good Premier League centre-back who would've been an excellent partner for Van Dijk. Nowhere near Salah's level, but a very good Liverpool player. 👍

John Barnes speaking to @ptgorst: "We won the league with Arne Slot and all of a sudden we want to sack him? "If he then goes and Alonso comes, suppose Alonso fails in his first six months or first year, are we going to say sack him and bring somebody else in? "I always support the managers, whoever they are, because they come to the club because of their success, because they're good managers, and they have to be given time."

🥇| @Simon_Hughes__: For the time being, Arne Slot has the backing of both Richards Hughes and Michael Edwards. They think he has been dealt a rough hand for all sorts of reasons, and if he gets through this period, he should, in theory, be better equipped to take Liverpool forward. Whether that stance persists if Liverpool are knocked out of the FA Cup and the Champions League and fall away from the Premier League top five over the next few weeks remains to be seen.

#OTD in 2010: Despite this lovely goal from Daniel Agger - reminiscent of his strike against Chelsea in the 07 CL semis - ten-man Liverpool lose 2-1 to Benfica in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final

@The_Third_Kit They never talk about how vicious the game was back then. Half of the top players today would wilt if they were in games against Vinnie Jones or the Arsenal backline.

It’s stupid to compare players from different time periods because things have advanced so much that it’s not a fair comparison. John Barnes with modern pitches, modern sports science and not having Bananas thrown at him by racist dickheads more than likely is the best player in the world. Also “Pool” 🤮
Emzel@Emzyl_

Nah, thinking about it again, Carragher ranking John Barnes ahead of Salah as a bigger Liverpool legend is genuinely bonkers, I still can't believe it man. I mean what's the criteria?! In what planet was Barnes a better player than Salah never mind a bigger pool legend??

As the debate rumbles on and on, what’s really struck me is that in picking a camp and getting so upset over a list, we’re actually character assassinating and ripping into two red legends just to prove our point. Stop the circular firing squad please. I love them both.

I very rarely scroll any more but I just did for the first time in a long time and saw people arguing about whether a fella who played 737 games for Liverpool is any good. Literally pointless discussing it with people who think he wasn’t. Life’s too short!

Salah has (overall) been great for Liverpool but if you think Salah is Liverpool's greatest ever player, then you simply lack experience of supporting the Reds.
