@Ayo_BII @geoffschwartz Usually I don’t, but it’s probably the only way to say non-revenue sports.

@LNehls5 @geoffschwartz I think they just hate saban Logan. He never said make less, you can make whatever you like through NIL but the collective revenue sharing needs share needs to be addressed. The two are very different things

Nick Saban said the term “student-athlete” will eventually change to “athlete that’s a student” because you’d have colleges sponsoring “pro sports teams” because “we are going to be playing the players so much.”

@LNehls5 @geoffschwartz Paying players (above the table) won’t change a thing. Chasing TV revenue, Mega conferences, expanded playoffs, are killing the sport.

@therealTM_1 @geoffschwartz Completely different situation, coaches have contracts and have to be bought out. If you think $30-$40 million rosters year over year is sustainable then I don’t know what to tell you.

@LNehls5 @geoffschwartz No longer viable? Until we see football programs dropping down conferences then it is still viable. Plus, nobody is forcing any school to pay. But they will be cause that is what the market demands. Nobody cries when a coach makes 8 figures or the strength cosch makes a million

@therealTM_1 @geoffschwartz We’ll see if people still have these same opinions when their teams either stink or go under cuz it’s just no longer financially viable long term.

@LNehls5 @geoffschwartz I wonder what u do for a living? Blame the person who gave that sort of production $200K. I know plenty od people at working making $250K who do little.

@LNehls5 @KRod_505 @CoachStokowski @RossDellenger Judging from your comments you obviously haven’t been paying attention. If a univ opts in on the House settlement they’re required to pay athletes. The amount each player receives will be determined by the individual AD. So if you don’t like a $200K receiver then that’s on the AD

Title IX but you’re going to run into lawsuits very soon if sports start getting cut. I’m very pro non-rev sports since I worked with them so pardon my passion towards them. The whole paying players in college sports was originally supposed to be so top dawg QBs/performers could make money from say Wendy’s commercial or local companies if they wanted to endorse them. But it’s become a “pay for play” scheme that is the exact opposite of what it was meant to be. We’re in a massive bubble with a vast majority of the athletes being no where near the value of what they’re making and we’re witnessing a potential collapse of college sports as a whole because of this.

I'm going on a tangent here, but I have no idea why colleges still have non-rev sports. I studied in Japan for a semester, I could be wrong, but the only sport universities had was baseball. Everything else was done on an intramural level. Other than football and basketball, why shouldn't US univerisities be the same?

@DroSports @georgewrighster Who runs the super league? Private equity, TV? Do ADs still have their own operating budgets to support non-rev sports?

@LNehls5 @georgewrighster Best thing to do is have a league separate from NCAA all together. Give players options to choose college or minor league system.

Nick Saban being CFB commish is a HORRIBLE idea. I respect him so much but this is like old people in Congress trying to legislate and understand TikTok/IG. They don’t understand what’s going on fully because they don’t use it and they have the nostalgia for the good ole days. The answer is not to keep the old system in place with some tweaks. It’s like trying to turn a 1957 pickup into a Tesla by changing the motor and adding all the wires. This era in 5 years is more different than the 50 before it combined. Blow it up. You have models that work in pro leagues. But they refuse to do it because they want to stay in power.
On3@On3

NEW: Nick Saban issues a warning to college sports about the current NIL landscape during his testimony for "The Protect College Sports Act": “It’s become an arms race, who spends the most has got the best chance to win. But I think it’s a race to the bottom because if you don’t spend to win, you lose your fan base and you don’t have any revenue.” on3.com/news/nick-saba…

@justinjustinwho @geoffschwartz Tell me why dude should get $200k for doing nothing, what have they contributed to a program to generate any revenue? Meanwhile you have support staff making significantly less, contributing way more to the actual success/functionality. Please answer that.

@LNehls5 @geoffschwartz No insurance, food & a bed to sleep in is BARE minimum when the average FBS fb budget is $50M .. again, if my starter triples those #’s & gets $1M why wouldn’t his backup be worth 200k? And non-millionaires finish up degrees everyday, so y wouldn’t a millionaire be able to? 😂

@jayquintana_jr @geoffschwartz What I’ve realized about today and Sabans comments is there are a lot people who don’t understand the college athletics landscape, don’t care about non-rev sports, and are probably financially irresponsible.

@LNehls5 @geoffschwartz Why should reality stars get paid millions? Or billions in the Kardashians case? The market sets the price in a capitalist society.

@KRod_505 @CoachStokowski @RossDellenger Boosters and rev sharing from ADs. But that model and all the player shenanigans kills college athletics, and if you are too blind to see that i can’t help you sir.

What did said player do to earn $200k? Most are already getting insane health benefits, meals tutors, scholarship, stipends, etc. is that not enough? Or do you just want handouts so when bro transfers 3 times, doesn’t finish his degree and ends up working at Home Depot he may have enough cash to survive a few years and relive how he had 12 career catches against FCS opponents in garbage time.
