Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has commenced a statewide compliance assessment of all ILERA EKO-empanelled healthcare facilities. This initiative reinforces the enforcement of the Executive Order on Mandatory Health Insurance and ensures that healthcare providers meet the required standards for quality service delivery. The exercise covers all public health facilities and selected high-volume private hospitals across Lagos State, focusing on readiness, efficiency, and adherence to ILERA EKO operational guidelines. Furthermore , this assessment will help identify gaps, strengthen standards, and improve service delivery for all enrollees. The initiative also supports Lagos Stateโ€™s goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), ensuring residents can access quality healthcare without financial hardship. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Not yet enrolled in ILERA EKO? Now is the time to secure access to affordable and quality healthcare. #ILERAEKO #LASHMA #HealthcareForAll #UHC #LagosState

#ThrowbackThursday Two days ago, we convened a strategic retreat with LGA and LCDA Chairmen to advance the implementation of the Executive Order on Mandatory Social Health Insurance in Lagos State. We reinforced our enrollment scale-up targets and the critical role of grassroots leadership in driving ILERA EKO penetration across communities. A major highlight of the retreat was the decoration of the LGA and LCDA Chairmen as EKOSHA Icons and ILERA EKO Champions, positioning them as frontline advocates of mandatory social health insurance within their respective jurisdictions. Together, we are strengthening the pathway to Universal Health Coverage in Lagos State. #ILERAEKO #MandatoryHealthInsurance #LASHMA #UHC

Federal Medical Centre, Jabi has issued a press statement clarifying recent events surrounding the tragic passing of Late Ifunanya Lucy Nwagene following complications from a snake bite. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this loss. FMC Jabi reaffirms its commitment to quality, timely, and life-saving care, and encourages the public to rely on verified information from credible sources. Kindly read the full statement below: PRESS STATEMENT CLARIFICATION ON RECENT EVENTS REGARDING THE CASE OF LATE IFUNANYA LUCY NWANGENE Abuja, Nigeria | 01 February 2026 We wish to address the circulating discussion on social media concerning the unfortunate case of Ms. Ifunanya Lucy Nwagene, who tragically passed away due to neurotoxic complications following a snake bite on January 31, 2026. First and foremost, we express our deepest condolences to the Nwagene family during this incredibly difficult time. The loss of a loved one is never easy, and our thoughts are with them. We want to clarify that the management team at Federal Medical Centre, Abuja acted promptly and with the utmost care upon Ms. Nwagene's arrival. Our medical staff provided immediate and appropriate treatment, including resuscitation efforts, intravenous fluids, intranasal oxygen, and the administration of polyvalent snake antivenom. After a thorough but quick evaluation, it was clear that Ms. Nwagene suffered severe neurotoxic complications from the snake bite. Despite all efforts to stabilise her condition and transfer her to the Intensive Care Unit for further treatment, she experienced a sudden deterioration just before the transfer. Our team of professionals worked diligently to provide CPR and other life-saving measures; however, despite these efforts, we were unable to revive her. We stand by the quality of care and dedication our team demonstrates daily. The claims of non-availability of anti-snake venom and inadequate response are unfounded and do not reflect the reality of the situation. We are committed to transparency and integrity in our practices and will continue to pursue excellence in patient care. In light of these events, we encourage our community to engage with credible sources for information and updates rather than relying on social media speculation. We remain available for any further inquiries or clarifications. Thank you for your understanding. DR. BIOKU MUFTAU, Head of Clinical Service Federal Medical Centre, Jabi

The establishment of this Taskforce reflects a deliberate, system-wide effort to strengthen clinical standards, patient safety, accountability, and learning across public and private health facilities. The Taskforce is oriented toward improvement, active learning, appropriate incentives, and capacity building across the health system, with emphasis on prevention and systems strengthening rather than blame or punitive action in the absence of proven negligence. In this briefing from my desk, I outline the rationale, scope, and direction of the Taskforce, grounded in coordinated governance, prevention, and continuous improvement.
