Next week, the Middlesex-London Health Unit anticipates that Environment and Climate Change Canada will issue an Extended Heat Warning beginning Sunday, June 22nd to Wednesday, June 25th. Our region is forecasted to experience four consecutive days of high temperatures. Particularly concerning is that overnight temperatures are not expected to cool off significantly, increasing the risk of heat-related illness. We are notifying everyone to be prepared, take precautions to be safe and check in on family, friends, and neighbours, especially those who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat. For more information on heat-related illnesses visit: healthunit.com/extreme-heat (link in bio). . . #MLHU #ExtremeHeat #londonontario #MiddlesexCounty #heatwarning #staysafe #tips

🧵1/These are net new spaces that will offer a positive impact on the community - not an expansion of any program. Both projects have been approved through a formal RFP Process with the City of London.

Highly Supportive housing is being touted as “signs of promise and progress” in #LdnOnt. Drive or walk by the House of Hope at 362 Dundas St. Stop in at the local businesses and ask them how the past year has been? Where is the evaluation prior to expansion? 644-646 Huron St?

@StevensonLDN The only way to solve a national housing crisis is through housing, in particular, affordable supportive housing. Do your research on the positive impacts harm reduction has on long-term housing stability and recovery as part of a continuum and stop spreading misinformation.

@StevensonLDN Spreading misinformation is irresponsible as an elected official. Harm reduction doesn't equate to valuing illegal substances, it means the people who use illegal substances are equally valued to those who do not and the services offered reflect that.

And we are back to the main reason why I voted NO to endorsing the Highly Supportive Housing Plan. “The continuum recognizes that the self-determined goals of abstinence and harm reduction are equally valued and interrelated goals of care.” This means that Recovery is NOT the focus. Using illegal drugs with harm reduction is “equally valued” to the goal of abstinence. “harm reduction also supports assisting people to seek out treatment [from addiction to legal and illegal drugs] when and if they feel that they might benefit from it.” “Supports will be available for people who use any psychoactive substance, including but not limited to alcohol, opioids, amphetamines, cocaine, and marijuana. Inclusivity of this nature acknowledges that substance use is fluid, and many folks will use more than one substance over the life-course or at a given time.” Remember the debate and discussion in 2023? Costs estimated at $100K/year/bed in taxpayer money, drugs allowed to be used in their units and with no requirement to choose into treatment….. It’s time to come back and look again at what this Council endorsed and how these Highly Supportive Housing buildings will now be placed within our city with no real say or input from the public? We were promised an opportunity for course correction if there were concerns. There are some very big concerns. #LdnOnt london.ca/sites/default/…

@StevensonLDN What’s more important than the colonial version of a national anthem that doesn’t accurately acknowledge our ancestral history and stolen land is the overrepresentation of Indigenous People’s in homelessness, MMIW, poverty, jail, or access to basic human rights like water…

Question for you: The National Anthem is sung/played live by a different person at the beginning of each #LdnOnt Council meeting. Three times since I have been in office, the words sung were not the official version. Instead I heard “Our home ON native land” I believe in the chambers of our Municipal Council, only the official version should be heard. What are your thoughts on this? Does it matter?

From @abacusdataca: 40% of Ontarians oppose the use of the Notwithstanding Clause to clear encampments while just 12% strongly agree with it. Overall, 69% of Ontarians are opposed, neutral, or unsure. Just 1 in 5 @fordnation supporters strongly agree with the use of the Clause.
