Excited to share our latest work, now out in @LSAjournal. We show that the E3 ligase HOIL-1 can ubiquitinate many different saccharides and describe a chemoenzymatic platform to generate ubiquitinated sugars as tools for studying non-proteinaceous ubiquitination.

The RBR E3 ligase HOIL-1 ubiquitinates Ser/Thr-residues and various disaccharides in vitro and can be used to generate ubiquitinated sugars as tools to study non-proteinaceous ubiquitination @LechtenbergLab @WEHI_research life-science-alliance.org/content/8/6/e2…

We hope that our protocol will enable us and others to generate various ubiquitinated saccharides as tools to further develop the non-proteinaceous ubiquitin field. A plasmid for bacterial expression of the HOIL-1 variant will be available at @Addgene soon.
