The supermarket has rearranged itself again. I spent ten minutes searching for olive tapenade and reflecting on the quiet collapse of civilisation.

@markplynch Thing is he already has a name. I've been looking for it at the cemetery (our immediate neighbour) to see if anyone stands out. I imagine he'd be royally peeved off if I started calling Fred. He may break a few things, again!

@LegatWriter Did you give your ghosty bloke fella a name? For some reason "Fred" is very popular for ghosts.

@VGrainger Thank you, Victoria! He's fascinating. Stańczyk will feature in my third Copernicus book set during the final war with the Teutonic Order under Sigismund the Old. (If I ever write it!)

@LegatWriter Ha. No. If she was, the aliens would've sent her back pretty quickly. Strong Yorkshire woman. Took no stuff and nonsense!

@markplynch O wow, what a story! I'm sure Scraggy Dog kept you and Millie company on the quiet. 🐕🐕

@LegatWriter the other Millie dog who comes and sits next to them. Now, m nephew had no idea about my first dog, who'd died years before he was born. Weird, huh? But the dogs looked alike. I like to think maybe the ghost of Scraggy Dog hung around me still, even if it is just a fancy.

@LegatWriter My mum also lacked the fantasist gene. She was an Emmerdale Farm person and had nightmares if she even saw a clip of Star Trek. The idea she of all people would have a strong UFO sighting is mad to me. She was scared at the time, but said she felt privileged to see it afterwards.

@LegatWriter A neighbour had an exorcist in to get rid of a demon. Weirdly, about a week after she told us I wound up back in Yorkshire & needed net access, so went to a library. Bloke sitting at PC beside me turned to me & said "You wouldn't know of anyone having demon troubles, would you."

@markplynch 😱😱😱 We have a ghost in the house (yes, Wiltshire). He (!) used to be hostile but I convinced him to stop trashing the place. We've learned to live, and be dead, alongside one another.

@LegatWriter Ooh. Intriguing. The ghost story in my collection happened to us in Wiltshire. But when we stayed in a big old pile of a place in Scotland, I'm pretty sure an invisible presence tapped me on the shoulder and whispered in my ear. Both my experiences felt to be with female ghosts.

@markplynch One of the stories belongs to my mum. I believe her because she wasn't a fantasist like me. The second tale is mine, and although I am a fantasist, I know it to be true because I didn't make it up (though the jury is out on my mental state at the time).

@LegatWriter Funny thing is, I always wanted to see a UFO but my mum got to do that, whereas I got the ghost experience. She hadn't believed in UFOs, and I hadn't believed in ghosts... That should prove something, but probably doesn't. Do you believe your family? I believed my mum.

@markplynch Now, I'm really keen to read it. I have a couple of real-life ghost tales in my family.

@LegatWriter Given half the tales are ten years old and more, I'm more forgiving of them and the me wot wrote them than the recent pieces... There, I sort of despair that I haven't particularly improved. Collection starts with a true tale, tho, me and my partner's introduction to ghosts.

@LegatWriter Saw the bloke putting this up. He was showing what the French call "the plumber's smile" as he did it. Was tempted to take a photo of that and caption it "hot cross buns" but decorum prevailed.

The first miracle of Easter: Under an old oak in the fields where Dog chases squirrels, Husband made a Winnie the Poohesque sign to show the postman where the squirrels live. Two days later the sign was stolen. Yesterday it was returned. A miracle or what? #miracles #goodwilll

@LegatWriter Speaking of which, and I know we weren't, but how come there are no animal novels being written these days? You know, Watership Down, Wolves of Time, House of Tribes, Ratha's Creature, that sort of stuff.
