@sketching204 The whole time watching that Yoshi scene I was thinking "why wasn't this just a short for the DVD?" because there was absolutely no reason for this to be in the actual movie.
"Shenanigans over story" has always been an issue with Illumination, but god, this one was messy.

Lowkey, they could've still kept Rosalina's original backstory and the sisters thing by giving her a real motivation Piloting the Observatory in search of her family, because she's lonely would've contrasted with Peach finding her sense of belonging it was literally right there!

there’s a huge difference between liking how they handled Rosalina’s characterisation vs not liking how she’s used in the narrative because for some reason, I’m seeing people confuse both when taking about her.

@sketching204 One of the things the first film was praised for was having Mario trying to save his brother rather than rescuing a princess he barely knew.
Ironically, Galaxy revolving around saving Rosalina - who the main cast haven't even met - proves exactly why that was the better choice.

@sketching204 While still basic, the first film centres its emotional stakes on Mario and Luigi's relationship, giving a personal motive for Mario's adventure.
This one doesn't have that - even with the Rosalina twist - so there's no actual reason for the adventure other than just "because".

The story was also pretty weak in the first mario, to its credit however its more "focused" lol
Galaxy has a bunch of different movies happening at the same time and only one of them is interesting (Bowser)

I don't buy that the twins are innocent and didn't know what was going on because catrick's very obviously into it whilst his father is yapping about the inferiority of certain species. Even if they didn't know about the walls they're still supremacists and pro ethnic cleansing🤷

@sketching204 Spider-Verse is a movie that *has* fanservice, balanced by other aspects that would carry the film well even without it.
Whereas with Mario, the movie in itself *is* fanservice, in that it's sole thing driving every single aspect of making it.

Lord and Miller films show that the mario movies reliance on references, action aren't bad but the problem is they forget to build up stakes like fleshing out the cast, story
Like if they fixed that, I'm sure critics would be nicer to these movies IMO

Just saying, if Z3 uses the birds to implement actual, straight up musical numbers into the movie, I'd honestly be totally okay with that.

Seeing as Daisy’s pretty much confirmed to be the next movie, I need her… bare minimum… to match Luigi’s freak, if not exceed it.
We’ve already got two levelheaded girlbosses, I desperately need Daisy to be an unpredictable wild card.
