John Cowan is a prominent computer scientist and language enthusiast known for leading Scheme Language standards, contributing to XML as part of the W3C and improving global text handling through the Unicode Consortium.

Recently, John has faced significant life changes due to health challenges and personal loss. With the support of his family, he has relocated from New York City to Virginia and is preparing for a more permanent move to the Washington, DC area.

He has brought clarity and precesion to the English language by publishing a modernized revision of "The Elements of Style" and writing the comprehensive reference grammar of the constructed language Lojban.
