@implausibleblog Strange that they want due process now. When it's foreigners who have committed crimes here, they aren't that bothered about due process then.

Andrea Jenkyns has a meltdown when Purkiss points out that she and Reform UK talk about women's rights, but refuse to criticise Trump At one point Jenkyns stands up and threatens to walk out Jenkyns then repeatedly refuses to respond to questions from Purkiss, repeatedly telling her she's not the host of the show Quite possibly one of the most humiliating conversations for any person

@MartinSLewis wife and I spent yesterday afternoon with her parents going through everything finance. Saved them £1800 per year! They were paying BT £77 per month for broadband and £15 for a tv package they didn't use. Switched to voda for 24 per month - £828py saved on that! 👍

@scott_expert We (as a society) are not paying more though. We're paying less as we're not paying fuel duty on ev's. That is less money for the treasury to fix the roads.

@Lukedunit1981 I'm not the Chancellor, so you're asking the wrong person. I merely ran a poll. Here's a radical idea - why should we pay more to drive on roads that are not fit for purpose to drive on?

Suspect I'm in the minority but I'm very disappointed that the Women's Euros final kicks off at 5pm! It's peak tea and bed time for my kids who are unlikely to want to watch it! Very frustrating!

£65 for a football top is ridiculous. If people in China can still make profit by selling and posting a full kit with a name/number to the UK for £14 then it just shows the sheer greed of the clubs and manufacturer's.

@Peter_Dawe I think it's just about ease of implementation. There's already a tax threshold at that point they can claw the money back at limited extra admin burden. Properly means testing would have been too expensive an exercise. Also this is what they do for child benefit

However, if they had come in at the £35k level at the beginning and sold it as removing the payment from the top 25% of earners, then it might have worked. So all in all we have got to a better position than we started from.

Some thoughts on WFA... It's right that it is means tested as I said before, but feels like the threshold is too high now. It should be more like the level of someone full time on minimum wage, approx £25k. That's the level that the govt has decided is liveable, so why 10k more?
Peter Dawe@Peter_Dawe

The change to WFA is just a failure unfortunately. It should be means tested, but not with such a cliff edge and not with such a low threshold for pension credits.

Dame Helen Mirren says it’s a real shame there wasn’t a 10th anniversary version of Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ released in 1994 with contributions from Pato Banton, Let Loose, East 17 and Whigfield

@J_Tanswell A really great piece. So much pressure on so many boys. Striking how the enjoyment had been taken away from so many

At a time in the year when under-16s across the country will find out - likely from one, single meeting - whether they will be released or receive a scholarship, this piece felt particularly pertinent, eight years on from my team's experience:

I was deeply insecure and paranoid about what teammates/coaches thought. Therapy helped to put football into perspective & encouraged my journalism. Others have taken different paths since being released from an academy, but experienced similar struggles: nytimes.com/athletic/58829…

FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s name has been engraved on the new Club World Cup trophy. A gold-plated trophy, which was designed by FIFA and crafted by Tiffany & Co, was unveiled on Thursday, and the 54-year-old’s name appears twice. One of the inscriptions reads “founding president, Gianni Infantino”, followed by his signature. Another passage that mentions Infantino reads: “We are witness to a new age. The golden era of club football: the era of the FIFA Club World Cup. The pinnacle of all club competitions. Inspired by the FIFA president Gianni Infantino.” Although Infantino did not design the trophy, he would have had to approve it. Infantino’s name and signature being engraved on the trophy is one step short of Jules Rimet, the FIFA president who created the World Cup in 1930, who had the whole trophy named after him. @Dan_Sheldon_ 🔗 nyti.ms/3Z5vOs7

@Lukedunit1981 They might want to, but it's not really allowed. The Kwarteng mini-budget spooked the market because of its content, and lack of OBR report. Hopefully that won't happen again.

No one should be revealing details from the budget before MPs are told, so it is frustrating that the new govt is doing it too. However, Trott is showing some brass neck here given it was a routine operating method of her government, repeatedly and brazenly.

I'm now on the phone with @TheAA_UK and have been told the reason why they've not been able to renew my car insurance is because, and I quote, "you're a journalist." Astonishing.
Dan Ogunshakin@DanOgunshakin

Just had this email from the @TheAA_UK. In summary, to improve their product, they've made it worse and if we wish to remain with them we'll have to accept a lesser service at probably a higher cost. Fuming doesn't even come close. Disgraceful practice.
