@AbdelBeheri Beautiful as always. United keep puzzling me — I never know what to expect. A good win gets me hopeful, then we slip up again. Not sure if our top xG really says much. Do you think we’ll beat Brentford and Sunderland?
English

A win is a win. United needed some luck.

@tactixology Fair point. If he does get sacked, who do you think would be the ideal replacement?
English

Ruben Amorim came to United with a set of well-meaning ideas on how to compete in the Premier League, based on his preferred formation and principles of play.
Ideas which we now know were naive and entirely based on what previously worked for him, rather than some deeper insights about the PL, United squad or football.
What seems incredible is that nobody at United did in-depth planning with him:
- how his ideas fit with the United squad
- how to get the most out of top players
- how do his ideas scale to the PL
- which idras need to be discared and which ones need to be optimized
- how do they allign with general trends
- how the model might evolve in 2-3 yrs
And now it seems clear that nobody at United did this after the half-season, before the transfer window and the pre-season.
Based on our transfer priorities, it seems the club execs accepted some version of “not clinical enough”, that the previous forwards were the key issue to solve.
If you actually watched the games, this explanation would be a cause for alarm.
What I’m saying is that Ruben Amorim is not the real problem here. Should have been gone after the season and the club should move on as soon as possible.
But the sporting decision-making at the club remains extremely chaotic, short-sighted and generally poor, based on gut and hype rather than true insight.
That’s the true cause for alarm here.
English

@tactixology United even let go of better GKs than they have now — Henderson and Romero. Decision-making has been a mess, yes. But with Onana, even if club communication was poor, he still had to go. Changing style doesn’t explain all the costly mistakes.
English

United made public and private assurances to their #1 goalkeeper, who had been with the club for 12 years, about his place in the squad.
They sent him a new contract, which he signed, only to never return a copy with the club’s signature. That is how United decided to let Alex Ferguson’s last goalkeeper know that they would, in fact, be moving on after all.
The club then signed replacement for a hefty €55mil fee, because he was the then-manager’s favored goalkeeper at his previous club, which is how United did their transfer business for 2-3 years.
But the manager then decided to use him in a completely different way than before, which highlighted all of his weaknesses and hid all of his strenghts, leading to one gaffe after another, and question marks regarding the decision to sign him.
The club then almost parted ways with the manager, but decide to renew his contract on the basis of one cup game, only to sack him 3 months later, leaving his handpicked goalie, now utterly lacking confidence, at the club.
A new manager came in and soon decided the GK was one of key reasons for his ~20% win rate, so he started experimenting with his understudy with no experience outside the Turkish league, who conceded 4 goals in his first Premier league match.
The gaffe-prone starter GK and the Turkish understudy were still supposed to be club’s primary options this season, but then the #1 GK got injured on the first day of the pre-season and the manager decided he doesn’t want him after all, urging the executives to find a replacement.
So two years after spending €55mil on its new GK, the club decided to ditch him and got a replacement, a promising young GK with no experience outside the Belgian league.
And now the club wants to send its previous #1, who only 2 months ago was supposed to stay at the club, on a loan to Turkey, leaving as its GK options: the Belgian wonderki, new to the league, the Turkish understudy and a seasoned veteran born during the Thatcher era, before Sir Alex took over United.
Quite an impressive saga in merely 24 months. But that’s Manchester United for you these days, unfortunately.

English

@EBL2017 Gordon still needs to improve his output in this setup — his numbers have been poor over the last 15 or so games
English

@EBL2017 Options were limited, the window was closing fast, and Brentford weren’t keen on letting Wissa go. Unlike PSG and Leipzig
English

@tactixology Good point, but with Tuchel it feels reversed. At Chelsea he thrived in knockout football, where short bursts matter most. At Bayern, though, he couldn’t endure the neck-and-neck grind of a long league race with Leverkusen. He looks more tournament-minded than league-built.
English

@AbdelBeheri Excellent piece. Can the plan be adapted to add progression through dribbling, with Zirkzee and Mainoo playing larger roles in the absence of Cunha and Mount? Also, how might a goalkeeper like Senne Lammens contribute in possession?

@mufcytp @lauriewhitwell @mjcritchley I don’t know what’s more suprising, the idea of Mainoo leaving or his asking price
English

💣🚨🚨JUST IN: There is a belief that Manchester United would now accept around £45M for Kobbie Mainoo — potentially even less as the deadline approaches.
[@lauriewhitwell, @mjcritchley]
Only £45M for Mainoo, in the same market where Madueke and Gittens cost £52M each? 😱

English

@allaboutfpl Probably because the amount of shots on target he has convinced people to get him
English

@mufcytp @eldesmarque Betis are playing it smart. Waited until the end knowing Antony wants them. At the same time, other teams are not very interested
English

💣🚨🚨BREAKING: Real Betis have submitted their final offer for Antony — a loan deal.
Manchester United must respond today.
[@eldesmarque]
Tell them to go try that joke again in Spain!

English

@FabrizioRomano That’s the missing piece in the Saudi league transfers. Investing in the young talents. But I wonder whether these talents can develop well in Saudi.
English

💣🚨🚨BREAKING: Manchester City & PSG are CLOSE to a full agreement for Gianluigi Donnarumma!
The deal is expected to be €30–35M, but only if Ederson leaves.
[@FabrizioRomano]
Tell me ONE reason why didn’t United go for Donnarumma despite having massive goalkeeping issues? 🤔

English

@AbdelBeheri Amazing piece. We need one every two weeks or so…

@DeadlineDayLive @FabrizioRomano It’s also good to see if Rogers performs well in his second season before any move
English

🚨 Tottenham's dream target after missing out on Eberechi Eze is Morgan Rogers.
However, it's a difficult deal to do because Aston Villa do not want to sell.
Tyler Dibling is another name on their list.

English

@UnitedStandMUFC It all depends on whether we can improve in the final third. This could take the game from a 0-0 to a 3-0 imo, provides no GK mistakes
