@billycarpy Every moment can determine the next 5 minutes of the game. If not more. Every action is decisive. It’s why coaches spend the entirety of games keeping the team focused.

When teams reset back to the GK late in games, those hopeless solo striker pressing runs are so key. They often force the GK to lump it instead of fully resetting, and that can be the difference between ~2 minutes of settled possession.

@EBL2017 I get the sentiment, but hierarchy and status are not meaningless. Humans are relational creatures, so order and hierarchy are unavoidable.

You see people jump from one extreme to the other after a couple of short-term outcomes. All season, the Premier League has been the best. Now it's useless and needs a reset. Arsenal draw to Wolves and they're awful. Now they're revolutionary. What if they lose to City? Sheep.

Right now, it’s Rosenior against the world. The way he is being doubted. The way his reputation & credentials are being disrespected. The way his character is being attacked. If I was him, I’d say bring it on. Time to double down on his belief system & WIN. Come on, Liam 🙏

Massively rooting for Liam Rosenior. Why? Because he is his own man with his own belief system and he does what he believes is right. That got him the Chelsea job where he has shown TOP potential. So what if nobodies don’t like it and vilify him?

@SamMcGuire90 Not sure why you keep posting about this as if it didn’t happen for 10 or so games after Liverpool’s horrible run at the start of the season. Inter away was when the use of high fullbacks started… Since, deviated from it. But back to it last night (to accommodate Wirtz).

Feels like I've been given a new lease of life seeing our fullbacks holding the width.

@IshTheTalisman When the situation is not black or white, confusion is normal. Get balance around him (like last night) and he’ll flourish. Wirtz is always going to get 20 G+A per season. No doubts. He is an output machine. And that’s what the game is all about.
EBL@EBL2017

@kennylika Wirtz is a top player who will score + assist at a high rate for the remainder of his career. But he causes tactical imbalance and plays immaturely, making him a luxury player because he’s not on the level of the true elite #10’s like Bruno Fernandes or Kevin De Bruyne. Simple.

@EBL2017 I love your analysis but you seem to have failed to get it right with Florian. Today his killing balance and Liverpool is suffering because of his roaming, then the other day him not being confined brings the best out of him. It’s getting confusing at times but love you 💯

This is how Pep would use Wirtz. Like Foden or Cherki. Not confined to any one area. Eventually, the coach must adapt to the traits of the player if they guarantee output in a suitable role (Wirtz does).
EBL@EBL2017

Pack the middle with technicians, let the fullbacks hold the width, and use Ekitike + Salah as split #9's. Arne Slot reverted to the diamond from earlier in the season. Both in AND out of possession. It's the same blueprint City use with Aït-Nouri + Nunes and Haaland + Semenyo.

Because it's so hard to press, Liverpool can pin teams back with relative ease. It's a man-to-man presses nightmare because there is no consistent positioning in midfield (like we saw at the Emirates). Also maintains a transitional threat with both Salah and Ekitike high.

It creates the ideal conditions for Wirtz because he can play in the left half space but also drift a lot. There is no specific emphasis on positional play with this idea. The main purpose of it is that it's extremely hard to press because the middle is packed with technicians.
