I keep seeing this argument, namely, the MVP show is going to cause free agents to jump ship. Guys, are you aware of how UFC contracts work? Some talent will trickle out, likely to be much later than they would’ve liked. The rest will leave the UFC when the UFC decides.
Aryan Shrivastav@ReheAryan

@SpinninBackfist Tbh, it's a great thing this is happening. UFC's been an effective monopoly for too long and pays fighters peanuts as a result. If this card succeeds, I hope more top UFC fighters jump ship and earn a better living for their families.

Putting a Horiguchi vs. Kape rematch in the Apex is practically a complete slap in the face to MMA history -- which doesn't exist in UFC, right? It's like the Vince Era WWE all over again. Anything outside the company "never happened."

Nothing like seeing a pro athlete in the sport’s top organization saying, after a victory in a full arena, that he’s broke. Reminds you that this sport is not like the others.

@Stoo_Fulton That was the first complete event (not just main card) that I've gotten to hear you call in a few years. Tremendous work from start to finish.

Haven't seen a single post about our second Friday the 13th of the year. Not sure if that's good or bad.

No matter how you feel about the event, Dana's self-proclaimed favorite fighter to work with & probably his least favorite joining forces for this card is pretty fascinating

"Why would they expect to get the best athletes?" "They are bleeding talent because of short-term greed. They're thinking about the next quarter. They're thinking about the shareholders. They're not thinking about their responsibility to be stewards of the future of the sport."

Ronda Rousey just went OFF on UFC fighter pay: “The UFC is one of the worst places to go. So many of their top athletes are leaving to find pay elsewhere. It’s why their champions like Valentina [Shevchenko] are selling pictures of their titties on OnlyFans.” 😬 (via @netflix)

Kinda amusing to read claims Francis Ngannou really botched things on the same day Jon Jones frustratedly asked for his release and Tom Aspinall argued Jones is being disrespected through underpayment.

Eddie Hearn fires back at Dana White following last night’s heated comments: “Boxing is not for him... I didn't expect him to implode this early. He’s sitting there, spinning a narrative like he’s created these unbelievable blockbuster shows in stadiums. He ain’t out the garage yet. Four shows in, and it’s absolutely bang-average content. You can’t even be bothered to leave your office, where you’ve got 200 people watching — supposedly a world championship fight, which, by the way, wasn’t actually a world championship fight. If you listen to it, it’s literally like every show they’ve done is a stadium sellout with pound-for-pound stars in unification fights, and it’s just set the sport alight. They have done nothing at all.”

Yesterday, Dana White defended Conor Benn’s pay and said it’s 'never a bad thing when guys make more money — you should be happy about it.' Was Dana happy when Francis Ngannou left and signed that massive deal? Of course not. Is Dana going to be happy when Conor and Jon say, 'Pay me'? Of course not. He’ll say, 'They didn’t want to fight.' This is all madness. Jai Opetaia probably made more than Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway to fight in front of 3 people at the Apex. Why would they be happy?

The more we hear about it the more the UFC White House card looks like a series of plan b (or c) fights. Which, that’s the fight business sometimes. But also? All this time to plan this big event and it still came down to who’s available and cost effective.
Ariel Helwani@arielhelwani

“I wanted Petr at the White House. That’s what I wanted. That’s what I asked for. They said, ‘You want Aiemann?’ I said yes, but I did mention that I would prefer Petr at the White House. That would have been huge… UFC is doing what UFC does.” Sean O'Malley asked for the Petr Yan rematch at the White House.

"Why is it a bad thing when guys make more money? It's never a bad thing. It's always a good thing." Then why have UFC athletes been severely underpaid for many years? If it's a good thing to pay them more (it is), then why have you paid them fractions of what they should get?
MMA Junkie@MMAJunkie

"I promise you that fighter pay is going to be just fine." Dana White responds to UFC fighters who are upset with Conor Benn’s $15 million payday 💰
