Tysties are the latest in a series of very cool ringing experiences I’ve had this spring, by virtue of training on the beautiful coast of North Wales with some awesome ringers. Including Chough, Little Tern, Barn and Tawny Owls and a *lot* of Pied Flycatchers! #lucky

@GeomorphicJosh I remember once turning up to my fieldwork accommodation to find that the travel supplier had booked themself in rather than me and my field assistant. 🤦‍♂️

We have to get a grip of these university approved travel suppliers. What are we paying for? Emailed a request over a week ago, chased, chased, and chased again. Resolved the issue myself in the airport for free when the supplier was going to charge🤦‍♂️ absolute joke

@medicinexthings @Elias_United LR was pretty critical on the pod a couple of stages ago of them revealing another team's tactics before they had played out. So maybe it's preemptive rather than a response to any VLAB tactics being broadcast

@Cyclingbottle @lucasaganronald 22km with 850m climbing is not exactly comparable to 43km pan flat, did Ganna also “underperform” in 🇯🇵 before winning 🌈? And pretty sure Remco (and MV) attacks in the RR were just so Belgium didn’t have to pace. Once WvA was alone in the lead group nobody would work with him

@Macgregor_Cal @lucasaganronald Belgium finished 6th & 9th in the time trial while both Evenepoel & Van Aert were on the podium of the Worlds that year. One medal at the Olympic TT was the bare minimum. They should never have lost gold to Carapaz too. Evenepoel should have been there to support Van Aert

And suddenly with the health problems of Van Aert, Stuyven, De Lie, we have from the strongest national team at the Olympics one still strong, but not that strong team as they have fully healthy only Remco Evenepoel and Jasper Philipsen.

@Cyclingbottle @lucasaganronald Well, silver in 2020 for a start… If the nation as a whole doesn’t take Olympic sports seriously funding-wise then you could be on to something more generally. Struggle to believe that would have much affect on cycling in 🇧🇪 though. Only 🇫🇷 has more WT teams

@Macgregor_Cal @lucasaganronald And apart from that? I'm not only talking about cycling. Belgium generally underperformance at the Olympics, what could mean that there is a bigger reason

@Cyclingbottle @lucasaganronald They literally won the last-but-one men’s road race gold medal, but OK

@lucasaganronald Don't expect too much by Belgium at the Olympics anyway. It's usually not really a competition where they achieve many good results. Last time, the time trial was also a big disappointment, while results at the Worlds were excellent around that time

Heard a squeaky honk outside and looked out the window to see 49 White-fronted Geese hurtling towards us! One of them is wearing some sort of neck collar with a tracker. The same flock was seen passing Portstewart about an hour earlier by @DonnaRiddell10 #WindowWildlife

@outdoorspodcast @faceyrj I agree with Rich, you're talking a lot of sense. I tend to think of myself as a 'conservation scientist' rather than a conservationist - my work isn't conservation, but it assists with conservation. Suspect a lot of (but not all) bird ringing falls into that bracket too.

@faceyrj Thanks for your comment, Richard. The motivation behind will also change ever so slightly how one goes about an activity too. This topic has been a long time coming and I'm almost sure that some folks will not like what I had to say, either.
