@business Wasn’t this already decided by the United Nations in 1971? Wasn’t this also part of the commitments made when establishing officially diplomatic relations with the PRC? Isn’t it strange to still be emphasizing this in 2026?

The thought process of Japanese politicians is shocking—the Defense Minister presented a "warship," a symbol of militarism, to the leaders of Indonesia, a nation invaded and colonized by Japan during World War II? Is he trying to remind Indonesia that the Japanese occupation of Indonesia during World War II (1942-1945) was a history of violent plunder. The Japanese army caused profound suffering to the region in its plunder of war resources such as oil and rubber. Japan forcibly conscripted hundreds of thousands of "Romusha" (laborers) in Indonesia, many of whom were sent to Burma and Thailand to build railways, where they died in large numbers due to hunger, disease, and mistreatment. The Japanese army perpetrated the horrific Pontianak Massacre in West Kalimantan, killing a large number of local sultans, intellectuals, and Chinese. Perhaps the Defense Minister was ironically reminding Indonesia that it was the Japanese colonizers who helped Indonesia overthrow Dutch rule and achieve national independence? This logic is utterly shameful.

@angeloinchina I think most Chinese people have heard the saying “要致富,先修路” (If you want to get rich, build roads first.” But most people living in cities don’t know whether “村村通,路路通” (roads connecting every village and every route being accessible” has actually come true.

Every time Foreign Affairs drops a piece like “China’s Edifice Complex” with that dramatic Jiaozhou Bay Bridge photo, it feels like the usual script. Beijing can’t stop wasteful flashy spending, they say. But that bridge cut crossing times from hours to minutes, improved port links, integrated economic zones, and supported Qingdao’s growth as a logistics hub. Expensive? Yes. Pure waste? The framing overlooks a lot. China’s big infrastructure investments have been one of the central drivers of its economic rise. That old saying still gets repeated. “要想富,先修路” — literally “If you want to get rich, first build (or repair) the road.” Heard it in villages and meetings since the 90s. Practical wisdom from the rural reform days. As I noted on the Belt and Road: “Belt and Road… WHY? Philosophically > ‘If you want to get rich, start building a road’. Infrastructure has a ripple effect…” (x.com/angeloinchina/…) Build the roads, rails, ports and airports, and you get faster movement of people and goods, business clustering, rising land values, and new economic centers in former backwaters. The Hard Data Backs What I’ve Seen Studies show transport projects delivering solid multipliers. Rail strong on jobs, income and value-added. High-speed rail expands markets, boosts labor mobility and supports real estate around stations. I’ve watched smaller cities gain real momentum once connected. Think of the multiplier effect like this in simple terms: when the government spends 1 RMB building a road, that money pays workers and suppliers. Those workers then spend on food, rent, clothes and so on. The shops and factories receiving that money hire more people and buy more materials. One initial yuan ripples out and creates several yuan of total activity in the economy — often 1.5 to 3 times or more when you count all the knock-on effects. Effects flow through supply chains, services and agglomeration, helping create more productive clusters. The pace of urbanization simply wouldn’t have happened without this base. Ripple Effects in Action • New Hubs: Better links help secondary cities develop. Many inland spots have filled in over time. • Real Estate: Connectivity reliably lifts property values. • Broader Economy: More labor mobility, efficient resource allocation and productivity gains. Challenges are real — some overbuilding, local debt pressures. Fast growth always has trade-offs. Yet the resulting modern infrastructure stock is now a genuine national asset, even as returns naturally taper. China’s approach of building ahead in a high-savings environment has clear strengths. The proverb still makes sense. Get the connections right, and prosperity has a much better chance to follow.

Belt and Road initiative/One belt one Road > WHY ? 1. Philosophically > There is a Chinese saying that says > "If you want to get rich, start building a road". Infrastructure is the foundation for economic development as it has a ripple effect in development. 2. China has a huge trade surplus, China ends up with large US dollars that need to be recycled. China doesn't want to buy US debt and perpetuate the Ponzi scheme of US debt which is not meant to be repaid. So it is much safer for China to invest into tangible assets. 3. China has a production over-capacity, it needs to have access to new markets for its products as well as it needs to access to natural resources. 4. Shorten lead time means more exchanges, faster travel, increase in productivity, more trades 5. Bypass potential US sea-blockade (Malacca Strait), hedging risks by building alternative routes. 6. Build political leverage with economic engagement which also leads to more peace and stability. Belt and Road initiative is the largest infrastructure project in human history, it is not only a Chinese project but it should be seen an Chinese ambition for humanity, for common destiny.

出典:マニラ・タイムズ:manilatimes.net/2026/06/12/vid… 出典:米国務省歴史局:history.state.gov/milestones/189…

The Philippines faces an existential threat. No, not "Chinese expansionism in the South CHINA Sea," but the fact the Philippines is LITERALLY OCCUPIED by US troops who are forcing the country to divert national resources from development to proxy war - into turning the Philippines into the "Ukraine" of Southeast Asia against China, the Philippines' largest trading partner. If the people of the Philippines do not reverse US occupation and oust the US client regime in power now - they will suffer a fate at least as bad as Ukraine. They are already suffering decades-spanning poverty because of their status as a proxy serving US interests at the expense of the Philippines' actual interests. Source - Manila Times: manilatimes.net/2026/06/12/vid… This is one the Philippines' Independence Day - guess who they gained independence from? The US - they were literally an outright colony of the US - when they first fought for independence against US occupation and control, the US instituted concentration camps and systematic torture - this according to the US State Department's OWN account: "The war was brutal on both sides. U.S. forces at times burned villages, implemented civilian reconcentration policies, and employed torture on suspected guerrillas..."
