Alright so every post about Azuki TCG is the same thing. - NFT PFP - Cryptobro "Keep pushing" affirmations - Hyperbolic projections about game's future - Red Gate emoji in post and display name, indicating commitment to the game's cult of followers Then I see this pictured interaction and it all makes sense. I got to try Azuki at GAMA, but I just chose to pull it from tomorrow's video (and reshoot the whole thing). Gameplay wise, it was fine - Tim, who showed it to me, was a very nice guy and I have no ill will towards him. The game played nearly identically to Bandai games - which I told him, and which puts it neatly in middle of the road for me for enjoyment. Not amazing, not bad. And that's what I said about it in my first version of the video. But I can't post that now that I see the goals laid bare. The end result of a TCG should be a fun game played between humans at a table - a social interaction, a strategic contest, and a fist bump at the end. The publisher works to make the game conducive to this on a reasonable scale, we pay them for access to more exciting components to enrich our hobby, and the game continues. Instead, I'm seeing that beautiful social experience being used to smuggle in an IP whose purpose is selling tokens on a blockchain. You can certainly enjoy all of the same elements listed above with Azuki, but in doing so and supporting the game, you're supporting a goal of getting their Web3 side exposure and widespread support. A pawn in a larger scheme. That beautiful experience can be had with any other game on the market that ISN'T trying to eventually normalize selling you a listing on a ledger that indicates you are the one true owner of a jpg. And now that I know better, I would recommend you seek ANY of those alternatives.

@KingOokaze @Cyberpunk_TCG This is literally the first time we've ever seen a major IP use Kickstarter to launch their TCG, and with the goal of not underprinting Set 1. So we basically have no precedent as to how this will impact the value of product on release and beyond as most games HAVE underprinted.

@MaindeckGames @Cyberpunk_TCG That's an interesting perspective on things. Do you see this creating any sort of issues down the road with product release?

Currently $4.64m is from the $8k tiers that have a serialized metal card of different characters. 580 have sold, and as a tier sells out they add a new one. With no retail tier, many of those are stores or "whales", and if we remove that qty of backers and the $4.64m, the avg backing amount drops to ~$475 for the remaining backers. Considering their first tier that gets you the KS exclusives is $350, this looks largely funded by fans with a clever whale-friendly limited tier rollout strategy at the top end adding about half of the total amount raised.

@MaindeckGames @Cyberpunk_TCG Seeing that this Kickstarter has only 12 thousand backers but has raised more than 10 million in funding has been a bit concerned as to who is backing, at what tiers are they backing, and if some of those pledges aren't just artificial pumps.

@BallerToy1327 The feel of motion is entirely missing, the sequels and TV shows did a massively better job of making flight exciting and realistic (because humans made them).

What a shame. Bandai needs to figure out how to make Worlds a celebration of their game AND their most dedicated players. Both GA and SWU nailed the feel last year. GA worlds competitors were signing each others' Worlds playmats and left with their names on shiny new jackets!

Hello everyone. This will be a long post about my experience at the One Piece World Championship: it will be divided into three parts—my tournament (even though there’s not much to say), my experience at the event, and my trip to Japan. I was asked to give feedback to Bandai about what I experienced, and I prefer to do it publicly rather than sending a form that will probably never be read. I’d also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the three winners—truly excellent players who have shown they deserved this result. 1) About the tournament itself, there’s not much to say.** I brought Ace, I was very well prepared, but I was extremely unlucky. I’m still very calm about it because, no matter how prepared you are, it’s still a card game where luck is necessary. I lost to two Mihawk decks. In the first game, I didn’t draw Red Roc or Round Table in 25 cards, and that card is essential for the matchup. I tried everything to recover, but it was impossible. Then I faced Red/Black Sabo, a terrible matchup, but my opponent practically bricked everything and I won. In the third game, where I faced the second Mihawk, I missed the first Garp, and the second only found a 6-cost Jozu. I completely missed my early curve and obviously couldn’t recover the game. It just wasn’t my day. I’m disappointed, but I played to the best of my ability, so I have no regrets—it will go better next time 😂. 2) My experience at the event, however, was terrible.** We were playing the World Championship of one of the top games at the moment, and it felt like playing a random local tournament in a bad store. Starting with the pre-tournament phase: unclear information throughout, with constant changes to the schedule. I find it absurd that we only learned the format three weeks before the event—especially a format that only Asian players had experience with, not Western players. Moreover, we took part in something called a “World Championship,” but it barely felt like one. There were 12 Japanese players, 10 other Asian players, and only 12 from the rest of the world. So it can easily be summarized as an Asian tournament with a few participants from the rest of the world. Then there was the option to bring a guest, which turned out to be completely useless. They couldn’t stay with us in the hotel unless they booked a separate room, or we as players had to give up our room to stay with them. They also couldn’t attend the event as spectators because it was closed and not open to the public. When we arrived at the event, we met at 8 AM in the hotel lobby, were taken to Bandai headquarters, and had to wait 30 minutes before entering. Then, due to slow management, the event only started at 10:30 AM. There was no food available inside, so we had to bring our own. Even worse, water wasn’t provided—we had to buy it from vending machines at the headquarters. Event management was terrible. None of the staff in charge had any idea how the game worked. The judges didn’t speak English, so communication worked like this: I talk to the interpreter, the interpreter talks to the judge, the judge responds to the interpreter, and then it comes back to me. We were told not to bring anything other than our deck. We were given official Bandai sleeves that became unplayable after five minutes due to sweat, causing the cards to stick together. As a playmat, we were given a paper one from starter decks (luckily I brought my own). The tournament was handled like a random local: as soon as you dropped, you had to leave the venue. I couldn’t even watch a friend in Top 8 because I was literally kicked out of the event. There was no stream for the event something outrageous in 2026. None of my friends or my community could follow the most important event of the year.

It's 1AM, and I can't sleep because I'm devasted. This game told me how it's like to love your job and I gave it everything I got. I fought all the fights I could to make it as good as possible. Frustration, anger, sadness, but also pride. It's gonna take some time to sink in.

@_emida FAB has done a great job building for its audience and is an inspiration to many of the new games growing their own IP. But definitely a reminder to not take what we have for granted in this industry!

RIP. It’s a tough industry. 💔😢 Every day I should be glad Flesh and Blood is still around. Through Covid and other turbulent times, a few ups and downs, but now steadily closing in on their 7 Year Anniversary. Still scary to imagine what could have been (or still can be). 🙏🏻

Sad day. Promising game with the best art in the industry. Grand success KS campaign was not enough. A lot of mistakes were made, and every TCG company needs to take notes from Altered. Irony is that the news comes the same day @Cyberpunk_TCG surpasses Altered as the most successful Kickstarter TCG.

Sadly, @Altered_TCG has cancelled their campaign for their next set and will be ending the game. As someone who believed in the game early on but fell off, I might do a post mortem video at some point, but my sincere condolences to everyone who continued to believe and play it.
