@jaseokundaye I really don’t understand that a lot of the upset seems to come from “we’re being lied to” when this all seems to have played out on a normal timeline and he’s now got a gigantic prison sentence, and the details are available if you want to read them.

Men, a question for you: do you sometimes get nervy/scared if you're walking around at night and another man is walking behind you? Like worried about being mugged/attacked etc. Or is that just women? Please answer in good faith I'm not asking just for fun!

If you've ever found yourself missing the "good old days" of the web, what is it that you miss? (Interpret "it" broadly: specific websites? types of activities? feelings? etc.) And approximately when were those good old days?

@ShawnMcCool Do you have a link to your blog post somewhere? Remember some of this stuff from the time and it made me despair (used codeigniter at work and it was a bad time)

@emmaggarland Happy times indeed. Don’t forget the Friday beer policy, one slice only - gate and only smoking on the far side of the courtyard

@tristandross Kerrang used to have a circulation of about 80k a week!!! For £1.90. That’s a fair chunk of money to run a company with. Internet murdered most stuff like it and now it’s all dead forever

@tristandross Runaway train. Organic goes down and down, and it looks like social was the only way to get traffic so you chase it. Meanwhile advertising price goes down and down and so does fill rate. Capital wants growth so you scale up but now the gap between revenue and expenses is worse.

one of the funniest things media companies do is ‘pivot to a social-first offering’ despite it literally never working. even if you build a successful facebook, tiktok etc, all you’ve done is made people enjoy the being on those platforms more, and never leaving them for yours

@tristandross Think it’s really sad we smashed print to bits without having a model to replace it other than suck up PE investment.

@tristandross Seems like no one could solve it, niche pubs have the same problem, how on earth do you make journalism pay

@joncstone It’s not just police, UK tv is much more cautious (than US) in general about featuring anything real world, something about copyright rules or similar, not sure

why is it that American crime dramas always feature actually-existing law enforcement agencies but British crime dramas always make up some obviously fake police force like ‘west British police’

@lesoulsista I think washing won’t help because b cereus spores are in the air all the time, and will grow and multiply in rice and reheating does not destroy the poison they produce. Onions do have some anti microbial properties but may or may not be significant

Question - do we think the way we cook rice (washing out the starch, turning it into jollof rice or fried or rice and peas) perhaps causes the rice to be less susceptible?

Contracted the worst, most appalling, most loathsome and rancid 'flu, which has driven a lorry through my Xmas plans (and left me feeling like it ran me over, too). The sort of illness where making a cup of tea is a gargantuan struggle worthy of epic commemoration.

@frankdejonge @github That’s how they get ya! Once spent about $10,000 on AWS glue my accident because we didn’t spot that while billed by the second, min task duration was 60 seconds

The billing of @github actions is greedy as hell. For every step, the minutes are rounded up. Have a 4 job workflow? The minimum is 4 minutes. Each job runs 1m01s? That's 8 billed minutes right there. Sure does discourage to split things up in jobs 🫨

@lxrjl Password manager question is interesting because the larger the org the more likely you have some SSO platform and therefore only one password

Infosec poll thread - unscientific but still curious among my followers. Nonprofit and for-profit orgs have separate questions.
