@tatertotsconor My Dad and I never saw eye-to-eye politically until the Trump years. He didn’t vote in 2016, because he hated Trump but didn’t like Hilary. He has since talked about how that was a mistake. Admitting you made a mistake is a good thing, not weakness or being a “loser.”

@oldladyreading @_celia_bedelia_ This is how I feel about Anthropologie. I LOVE their look and appreciate that they do have plus. But I don’t get to try things on before I order, and that hurts.
English

@_celia_bedelia_ Most of the stores where I used to be able to find clothes have now moved to this "more sizes online!" model and it pisses me right off. So I get the luxury of having to order, multiple sizes and maybe models too because who knows how (if??) it fits, wait for it to arrive,

@VanceMeister @freedom2marry @durandavis @bobcesca_go I grew up on a ranch in rural ETX. My father would never have shot one of our dogs for the behavior described by Noem. At his angriest with one of our dogs, there was a convo about rehoming. This isn’t “normal rural life.” Just cruel.
English

@freedom2marry @durandavis @bobcesca_go I haven't done it. I just understand that ranch animals are working animals. I also don't agree with it.
English

@hebagowayed That’s how my program did the defense. It was mostly advice on turning it into a book. Then they did the ceremonial “kick everyone out for a minute while we pretend to deliberate” and the advisor opens the door and greets the candidate as “Dr.” It was so cool every time.
English

@D_Carol2 @coolswife @KiernanNadja @simba80171 But don’t get me started on the feminization of the adjunct labor force.
English

@D_Carol2 @coolswife @KiernanNadja @simba80171 I teach at a CC and am the only woman out of 7 historians. Similar numbers in political science and STEM.🙃 English and nursing are our only woman-dominated areas.
English

@lynna_listens Vast majority of my professors, both in undergrad and grad school, were men. But the woman who taught women’s history was married and had a baby while I was in her class. So the person most likely to be pushing being a “man hater” had a husband and kids.
English

@broadwaybabyto Well said. I have a temporary injury to my back causing massive nerve pain. I simply can’t stand long enough to do much, and I got judged by a coworker for doing grocery pick up instead of “just going inside.” Some people don’t know until it’s them.
English

@savbrads The Fosters has one of the best “huge kitchens/homes I want” vibes
English

@PhdRachel For some reason my elementary librarian took that as a personal insult.
English

@H_Baeee I have a full time and three part time jobs. Plus a summer gig. 🙃

more of this, please. Hanks is exposed to a horrific event in US history, and instead of being angry that he is exposed to something upsetting, he's outraged at the people who kept this in the dark for so long. Serious adults want to understand the world in which they live.

Tom Hanks discusses never being taught about the Tulsa Massacre

@bestoneTX Don’t forget the threat of tornadoes pretty much year round. Spring is heightened, but we had one hit ETX on December 23rd one year.
English

@cryptocaoineadh And tone is 100% key. Older person but saying it in a condescending way? All the ick.
English

@cryptocaoineadh It’s a context thing for me. I’m in East Texas, so if it’s an older woman, it’s fine. Even if it’s an older man (again, depending on context), I’ll brush it off. Someone closer to my age? I do cringe inside.
English

@tlecaque It’s quite the insult in my family to be compared to “MawMaw May”
English

@tlecaque I’m looking at his chest of drawers right now. Things were so problematic between him and my great-grandmother that they had separate bedrooms; I inherited his furniture. No one speaks well of her, but my dad said he was quiet and nice.
English

@KelliRGill I’m the first in my family to get a PhD, but it never crossed my mind to call my self first generation. Both my parents had college degrees. How is this a thing?
