Removing TPS status for Haitians living in the United States would cost 350,000 workers their ability to work at a time when we’re already facing serious workforce shortages. I’ve heard from healthcare providers and business leaders across Nebraska, including @OmahaChamber, who are concerned about the impact this would have on patient care and our economy. I don’t see the goodness of deporting people who are here legally, working, and contributing to our country.

India is flooding the EB-5 investor visa program so hard that the State Department is warning it may have to **retrogress** (move the cutoff date backwards) or make the entire “unreserved” category **unavailable** for the rest of FY 2026.
Translation:
- EB-5 = pay $800K+ to get a green card for you + family.
- India’s demand is now so massive they’re about to hit the annual cap **early**.
- New applicants could be forced to wait years longer… or get shut out completely this year.
This is the same country already dominating H-1B and OPT backlogs.
The entire employment-based green card system is collapsing under the weight of one country’s demand.
Time to reform the caps and put Americans first.

H-1B Visa Lottery Expansions (1990s-2000s)
Congress repeatedly raised the H-1B cap in the late 1990s and early 2000s to meet supposed tech shortages. The annual limit went from 65,000 to 115,000 then temporarily to 195,000 before settling at the current 85,000 with extra for advanced degrees.
This flooded the market with foreign workers during the exact years American engineers and programmers were entering the workforce. Companies used the expanded supply to keep wages flat and replace experienced domestic talent with lower-cost visa holders who had less leverage to push back.
The result was a clear signal to young Americans that tech careers carried high risk of displacement. Many steered away from the field or left it early.
