The Dignity Act is a solution to our lingering immigration quagmire. No amnesty, no handouts, and $billions for our economy. Win-win!

Myself, @RepGregStanton and @RepYassAnsari just finished a surprise oversight visit at a temporary ICE holding site in Mesa, AZ. We visited immediately after learning about credible reports of overcrowding and that is exactly what we saw. The conditions are horrific.

Update in my fight to dismantle the broken OPT system—ICE just got me the numbers: In Missouri alone there are 4,430 OPT visas—many working in jobs that are out-of-scope, stealing opportunities from young Missourians. Here are some of the worst examples.🧵

AND, please look into why we aren't placing tariffs on overseas call centers. I was in my doctor's office last week, the doctor's receptionist had to talk to someone in the Philippines to schedule and imaging appointment for the office literally across the lobby. are there no Americans who can answer phones?

@EastcoastLaurie @WallStreetApes That's not a loan, it's a subsidy that lines the pockets of the servicers and the schools at public expense. Limit the loan amount, and the prices will go down.

@WallStreetApes The government should not be using these loans as a revenue source. Make the interest 1 or 2% to cover management costs so borrowers can actually pay down principal instead of just mostly interest and a little principal.

American medical student just did “horrifying math” on her student loans - Her amount due is $396,945.67 - Annual interest rate: 5.875% - Monthly interest accrual: $1,943.38 Her monthly resident paycheck is $4,054.98 HALF her income goes to just interest… She says if she pays nothing toward interest, the loan would grow to roughly $600,000 by the time she finishes residency Interest rates on student loans are predatory and should be illegal. This is usury

@WallStreetApes No. Interest deals with risk of default and tied up capital. The amount of her loans are predatory, and lack of bankruptcy is predatory. Those are what needs to change.

@septisum @gabriberton He's not as good as he claims to be. During the iPhone era, he took a bunch of other people's work, did the last step, then ran to the news and took the credit, compensation, and glory. He also got OtherOS yanked by Sony and never even dropped the exploit he claimed to find.

@gabriberton It might not be hard if you’re George Hotz, but most people are not even close to that. The models also don’t need to sleep and can run forever in a loop. Seems reasonable to hesitate to release these more capable models imo

Super interesting take from one of the greatest hackers He says Mythos is not as good as they claim, because zero-day vulnerabilities are not that hard to find for skilled hackers I'm far from the hacking world but sounds reasonable Any thought?

@kylecordes @cafreiman Look at how much institutional inertia there is, and look at 2016. Winding down things slow means they don't get wound down at all.

Is there a political "home" for someone with this combination of thoughts? 1) Haphazardly shutting down rather than carefully winding down U.S. agencies is a bad and incompetent thing. We should not do that. We should elect people who govern with care, regardless of what side of the political spectrum. 2) If the countries where these things were happening felt that the work was important, they should have (and could have) picked up the work and done it. They should appreciate the aid we provided for many years; but we are not responsible for doing it forever. These are sovereign countries with a bunch of people and budgets and everything that should take care of their own populations.

@cafreiman Were they Citizens? How many Americans die from the lack of healthcare and access to necessary services? Why should we rob the American taxpayer to pay for non-Americans? It's evil.

@Goldengategirl1 @michelletandler They aren't immigrants, and those are the perfect kinds of places to target. Illegal aliens compete for low-skill labor, which suppresses wages on the poor and most vulnerable, and widens income ineqality. Illegal aliens generally don't take your professional class jobs.

Just spoke with a manager of a restaurant in NYC. She said that since the ICE raids began 100 employees have stopped coming in to work (~30% of their staff.) She said they are hiring ppl without experience to backfill. Thoughts?

@Martina What makes you think a) MAGA likes the draft, or b) that this wasn't going to happen anyway? With the SSN database basically having all men in it, and nobody prosecuted for decades, this was inevitable.

Kat - they receive ZERO federal benefits or entitlements. None. No housing. No food stamps. No Social Security. And they must purchase their own health insurance so they are not a burden on hospitals or ERs. At the same time, they pay full taxes. They contribute to the system, without drawing from it. Paying in. Not taking out. And on top of that: $1,000 per year + 1% of income. This $$ goes straight to debt reduction and investing in the American workforce.
Kat@Katheee001

@RepMariaSalazar What about welfare? All these "dignity" people will be lifetime recipients of free housing, free food, free healthcare and free school.

i run a pcb design firm and we ship about a board a week the things that burn us are never the big design calls, its always a wrong footprint or a swapped pin or a part that went out of stock so we spent a month building an automated review stack that catch all of this. we check hundreds of parts and flag numerous issues daily comment "roast me" for early access

Immigration brings out strong passions. Good. It should. Because it affects every single American. But before echoing the noise, look at the facts. The Dignity Act is clear: NO path to citizenship. NO federal benefits. Criminals get deported- NO MERCY. Instead, you come forward, you admit you broke the law, you pay the price. This is NOT a free pass… It is accountability. You’ve seen the facts. Now get it right.

🚨BREAKING: Over 400,000 Arizonans—including 180,000 kids—lost food stamps since passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” That's more than any other state in the country, and almost 50% of total recipients. Trump & House Republicans claim there’s no money to feed families… but BILLIONS for war?! propublica.org/article/arizon…

@RepMariaSalazar Start with not rewarding illegality. If you were deported, you don't come back. There needs to be a difference between self deportation and getting caught, or there's no point to any of this.

This is a new idea, modeled on the Rural Physician Loan Repayment program AND we’re open to feedback. It’s not core to the bill. And with new funding for DHS personnel under H.R. 1, the OBBB, it may not even be necessary. Bottom line: we’re focused on what matters: enforcement, accountability, and getting this right.
Brick Suit@Brick_Suit

@RepMariaSalazar Ok. I read your "Dignidad" act. What's up with the part where lawyers get their loans forgiven for defending illegals? You want taxpayers to fund lawyers to give illegal aliens permanent residency! Screw you and your Spanish language "Dignidad" act.

@SarahPierceEsq It allows people previously deported to return, as long as they were deported under Donald Trump. The point of deportation is to keep them out. This bill is literally designed to give them a path back.
