Once and for all I’m going to end this debate for you all of you about POSTING EVERYDAY, and POSTING EVERYWHERE. This is going to hurt some of your feelings, and for the rest of you, it’s going to be a relief. If your priorities are mental health, satisfaction and expression… Then don’t post everyday and don’t post everywhere. You’ll still grow and be able to have a community. If your priorities are momentum, monetization and more data and feedback… Post as much as you can, in as many places as you can. The pushback on posting everywhere and posting everyday is largely about feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. I worked in TRADITIONAL MARKETING, at the beginning of social media. Do you know what my daily checklist was? I literally had to post everywhere, write 2 newsletters to the customers every week, write to articles for the website every single week… And this was on top of monitoring and managing our Ads on Google, our Ads on Facebook and our Ads on Bing… While also doing t he management and media buying for our print ads… And after they downsized my department and I no longer had a team I had to do all of this by myself… And that was 15 years ago, with very little automation, no AI tools, worse software and worse systems than you currently have, and I had to do it manually. You can absolutely with the right software and systems be everywhere and post multiple times a week without burning out… As long as you don’t look at your content like an art project or a living diary, or therapy … But if that is what you want or need it to be, then don’t take any of this advice and treating it like a business is probably not for you and will just make you sad and frustrated 😣. IF and this is only if, you’re trying to make this a business, then consider this… ONE view, if it’s the right view, is someone at a company with a budget that wants to work with you, for a reason other than how many views or how much engagement you get. You can be hired for what you represent, or your point of view or your reputation… That only has to happen with 2-3 of the right relationships for you to be making $100,000 a year… one brand relationship if it’s the right one can be that, and you don’t need to be a huge influencer for that to happen. If you COULD change your life like that, in the next 1-3 years, is that worth the extra step of uploading your short form everywhere? Or figuring out multi-streaming and having to figure out merged chat or frankly relying less on connecting with chat for the stream to stand on its own as live show people want to watch? Is that worth figuring out the shift to long form and how to package titles and thumbnails and doing A/B testing? Posting 100- 150 videos a year is a lot. I posted DAILY for 3 years until it was unsustainable as a solo creator and it took me from 20k-400K subscribers… On education tutorial content that had nothing to do with teaching a broad audience, didn’t tap into a young audience at all, and didn’t cover anything exciting. It did when compounded with real life pain (losing my grandmother to cancer, my mother’s surgeries, and then the pandemic) burn me out a bit. On the other hand, my life changed forever and I got nearly everything I wanted out of it. And if I had never stopped doing at least 100-150 long form videos a year, I would be over 1M subscribers and probably 3x my annual revenue (meaning nearly $1M/year gross revenue). So I understand the mental health trade off and opportunity costs better than most people. I am using this an example of Trade Offs… and what you give vs what you get. If you want to be satisfied and you want to prioritize above all else enjoying your community… It’s more than fine to focus on one platform and to focus on less outputs and only do what you find satisfying. Because that is the only or main reward you want. If you want more than what you have, do more than what you’re doing. Do content at scale.
