Amal Khalil was alive for hours. She phoned her family and the Lebanese military for help. People followed in horror as her colleagues updated the world on what was happening. And yet Israel blocked the Red Cross from reaching her for seven hours. That is stone cold murder.
Natasha Bertrand@NatashaBertrand

"Khalil was trapped alive under rubble for hours, having made a phone call to her family and the Lebanese military for help, Qudah told CNN on Thursday. 'The Red Cross was blocked for seven hours and when they reached her after seven hours, she was already dead,” she said. 'This kind of obstruction of rescue efforts may really amount to war crime.'"

#BREAKING - The Ford government passes its budget bill, having sped it through the legislature. Included in it is a provision that does away with most key FOI requests. The Premier and his cabinet Minister’s are now shielded from freedom of information requests.

A classic example of a dissident journalist exposing the silence and mendacity of the entire 'mainstream' media system with a single piece of honest analysis: 'With Corbyn finally ousted, Labour Together then mounted a new operation, using those same funds, to deceive party members into crowning Starmer as leader on the basis he would continue Corbyn’s policies. 'Following his election, Starmer immediately set about purging Labour of its left wing, driving down the record membership numbers brought in by Corbyn and relying instead on rich business donors. 'Labour under Starmer became another party entirely captured by the business class. The Conservative and Reform parties were thereby given permission to hew even further to the right, to distinguish themselves from Labour.'
Jonathan Cook@Jonathan_K_Cook

The real story tying Starmer and Mandelson is being buried by a conspiracy of silence. Read my latest here: jonathancook.substack.com/p/the-real-sto…

The metaphor for "Israel mutilating Judaism in favour of ethnonationalist state worship" couldn't be more obvious
Elizabeth Tsurkov@LizHurra

Someone at a coffee shop in central Israel noticed a religious Israeli wearing a yarmulka with the flags of Israel and Palestine and called the Police on him. The Police detained him, cut off the Palestine flag from the yarmulka and then released him. mako.co.il/news-israel/20… The Israeli Police under Ben Gvir has largely stopped upholding the law (actual crime is out of control) and is functioning as a right-wing repressive organ.

@decoded_dev @OpsHQs I never understand why people in positions like these resign instead of kicking up a fuss to the point where they achieve something or are forced out. The premise of resignation presupposes an institutional integrity which will be shamed, but they resign due to lack of integrity!

holy fuck, a hair dryer at a Paris airport broke Polymarket weather markets & made someone $34,000 richer - polymarket was settling Paris temperature bets on a single Météo France sensor sitting near the Charles de Gaulle runway perimeter - basically unguarded - the guy bought the long-shot outcome (like "22°C" when everyone expected 18°C) for pennies, since nobody thought it'd hit - then he walked up to the probe and briefly heated the air around it with a portable heat source, spiking the reading just long enough to register as the daily max - temperature snapped back to normal in minutes, the market resolved in his favor, and he cashed out - twice, on April 6 and April 15, before Météo France caught on and filed charges hyperstitions.

@luca04548 @fieality @Insane_Econ Yeah, I think it has little to do with orientation, more to do with demonstrating a willingness to violate taboos and abuse the vulnerable (showing one holds power as the highest virtue), & to enmesh one’s interests with those of the inner circle via ties of mutual blackmail

Everyone should read what the Israeli military did to journalist Amal Khalil today in this minute-by-minute account as the international community watched in horror. First the text messages threatening her then trapping her and a photographer in a house then bombing them then firing on international rescue crews, all with the world watching in real time. There are no words left for the horrors that U.S. political leaders are enabling.

🚨BREAKING🚨Israeli forces are now issuing direct death threats to Lebanese journalists on WhatsApp as well as besieging them. Al-Akhbar correspondent @AmalKhalil83, who has been documenting the devastation across southern Lebanon, received these messages from an Israeli number (+972 54-869-5113): “We know where you are… we will reach you… leave if you want to keep your head on your shoulders.” First message: “Alright, my lady, you are moving from one village to another, but you still haven’t gone to enough funerals or hospitals. There is a lot of grief & sorrow behind that smile you try to show on Twitter. Let’s see what your answer will be… Is your house still standing, Anisa (Miss)? I hope so?” Second message: “We know where you are & we will reach you when the time comes. Even though you are not important to us, in the end we will take everything into account. I suggest you flee to Qatar or somewhere else if you want to keep your head connected to your shoulders :)” This is not intimidation. This is the IDF issuing an explicit death threat to a journalist for covering their crimes. At the same time, Israeli forces besieged Amal al-Khalil & journalist Zeinab Faraj in al-Tayri, blocking the Red Cross & Lebanese Army from reaching them. They were in a delegate vehicle when a drone strike hit a vehicle behind them, killing two people. Both journalists were trapped at the scene. Amal contacted the Red Cross before her phone died. Her last message confirmed she was still safe. Rescue teams still cannot reach the two besieged journalists, Amal al-Khalil & Zeinab Faraj. They are just 500 meters away, but the road has been cut off by an Israeli strike, according to Red Cross paramedics. This is targeting journalists in real time. This is a crime. Pure state terrorism against the press.

@CorkyBottle @pawelwargan @TheAgentNDN I think ‘Wild west’ is in quotes for that reason: to mark the OP’s bitterly sardonic use of the term. ‘The inhabited lands west of the already occupied colonial territories of the early United States’ would be more correct, but is too unwieldy to fit in the flow of the writing

@pawelwargan @TheAgentNDN The only part I disagree with you on is where you state what the US had done to the Wild West. It was not wild before the genocidal European invaders killed the people, their food and stole their land. Sounds familiar?

Hitler aimed to do to the east what the US had done to the ‘wild west’: Exterminate its people and seize their land for settlement. 27 million Soviet citizens were killed in this crusade — some in the very same camps in which the Germans massacred Jews. The war of extermination against ‘Bolshevism’ was repeatedly and explicitly named as the principal driver of German imperial foreign policy under Hitler. The denial of this genocide and the Red Army’s singular role in defeating Nazism has been a central instrument of historical revisionism in the hands of the West for over half a century. It has allowed imperialism to wash its hands of its colonial crimes, while preserving its core white supremacist foundation.

Amazon just got caught running a secret price manipulation operation with Levi's, Home Depot, Walmart, and many more. Every time you "comparison shopped" online, you were looking at prices that were already rigged. Here's what happened: Amazon would monitor prices on Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Home Depot, and Chewy in real time. The second a competitor listed a product cheaper than Amazon, they'd contact the brand directly and tell them to "fix it." And the exact emails are now PUBLIC. Amazon sent Levi's links to two Walmart listings with the subject line "styles of concern." They basically said the prices on Walmart are too low and we have a problem. The next day, Levi's responded: "I talked to Walmart and they have partnered with us to take Easy Khaki Classic fit back up to ladder SPP price, $29.99 immediately." Levi's literally called Walmart and told them to raise the price. Because Amazon told Levi's to make the call. Walmart complied. Then Amazon matched the HIGHER price. Both retailers ended up charging more. The customer paid extra. Nobody competed. Same playbook with Hanes: Amazon sent them links showing Target and Walmart prices were lower. Hanes confirmed they "reached out to Target and Walmart to have the prices increased." Target increased the prices. Walmart increased the prices. Amazon kept their margins. But it gets even worse... Amazon told Allergan (the company that makes eye drops) that their product was "suppressed" on Amazon because it was cheaper on another site. Allergan responded: "Walmart got their price back up to $16.99." Amazon then unsuppressed the listing. They did this with pet treats on Chewy. Furniture on Home Depot. Products across dozens of categories spanning YEARS. The mechanism is simple but terrifying: If you're a brand and you sell cheaper on Walmart than on Amazon, Amazon suppresses your product, removes you from the Buy Box, buries you in search results, and effectively makes you invisible to 300 million customers. Brands can't afford that. So they call Walmart and Target and say "raise your prices or we'll lose our Amazon listings." Walmart and Target comply because they need the brand's products. Amazon captures 40 cents of every dollar spent online in America. That gives them the leverage to set prices across THE ENTIRE internet. Not just their own platform. So turns out, you were never comparison shopping. You were looking at a coordinated price floor set by Amazon through backroom phone calls between brands and their competitors. "Amazon is working to make your life more unaffordable." 3 separate antitrust trials are now scheduled for 2027. The FTC has its own case. 18 states plus the DOJ are piling on. This is literally happening during the WORST affordability crisis in a generation. Groceries up 25% since 2020. Housing unaffordable. Wages flat. And the largest ecommerce company on Earth has been secretly coordinating with brands to make sure you can't find a cheaper price ANYWHERE. "Competition" in retail is just a fantasy.
