the binary works fine, you're just looking for a gotcha. the "middle class" label exists to make office workers with a stock portfolio think they have more in common with richard branson than their local plumber, when they don't. the class of a person who works full time and owns assets entirely depends on what happens when they stop working. if they're able to scrape-by through the passive income from their assets, that is functionally working class. just because I have a shitty 1 bedroom apartment I'm making £800 a month off in some backwater town does not make me capitalist class or "middle" class, if I stop working I am not going to be able to afford living an average lifestyle. that is called WORKING class.

@o7laurence I just told you, you haven’t addressed that people exist outside of your binary. It’s not conceding, it’s waiting for you to give me an additional category that these people belong in.

@o7laurence A lot of waffle to not address the fact there are people that exist outside of your binary.

the economic question is whether you have to sell your labour to live. a head teacher with one rental still does. lose the job and the rental doesn't sustain them. they're a worker who happens to hold a bit of capital, not a member of the capitalist class. the "middle class" label mostly flatters this group into thinking their interests align with capital when they don't.

@o7laurence You gave a binary. Worker=working class. Capital gains=capitalist class. What would be the class of a person that has income from both working and capital gains?… middle class perhaps?

@nffckez If the head-teacher's primary income is from the asset, they are capitalist class. If their primary income is as a result of their work, they are working class.

@o7laurence My question was a hypothetical. Please answer it. I will not argue a strawman. Nice try.

@nffckez 1. It's not actually a known fact whether she rents it out. 2. By your logic, men can't support women's rights

@o7laurence A head teacher that owns 2 homes and rents one out. Are they working class or capitalist class?

@nffckez "middle class" doesn't exist. you either work for money (so you are working class) or money (or capital) works for you (so you are capitalist class)

@o7laurence Leftist politics is when you’re middle class and don’t have an understanding of the reality of the lives of the working people trying to escape the working class is far more accurate as a statement

@jaacknffc so what should she do? option A: renounce her assets so she's poor like the rest of us option B: fight to raise the bar so every hard working british citizen can own a home

people who got rich from bitcoin are literally some of the worst rich people i can understand some silver spoon daddy's money banker behaving like that, but you stumbled onto your wealth & still chose to behave like a cunt, despite knowing what it's like to be on the other side

@SolutionB2u @b1oodrain @numptypants @IntCyberDigest you're arguing about two different services: email and VPN. when it comes to VPN, Proton is just as strong as mullvad, we don't log or keep any records at all. we had VPN log requests from courts in the past, and we handed them a blank sheet of A4.

🔐 Proton CEO Andy Yen warns that the global push for age verification is the quiet death of online anonymity, because every passport scan, selfie, and biometric uploaded for "verification" inevitably ends up leaked, hacked, or monetized. He argues Big Tech and governments cannot be trusted to act as gatekeepers, and the only real protection for ID data is to never collect it in the first place.
