After ballooning in the aftermath of Covid while successive Conservative ministers appeared paralysed and unwilling to grip the crisis, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has begun making serious progress in clearing the system. The solution is the opposite: → More renewables → More nuclear → More storage → More grid investment → Hydro where possible Less exposure to foreign gas and oil markets In 2025, renewables generated a record 52.5% of UK electricity, with wind alone reaching 30%. Britain’s strategic objective should be clear: stop importing vulnerability, and start producing energy sovereignty at home.
