Maths advice please - EAL student, very weak English, looking to be entered for Maths GCSE next year. Anyone got any ideas where to start for independent work?

@LearningMaths If the statements had said ‘try to teach’, I’d answer A and B. Lack of ‘try to’ had me saying neither.

@ShakinthatChalk When we’re out walking, sometimes me and my daughter take turns relaying TTs as a game, I’ll say 3, she says 6, etc, I don’t rush and occasionally show her I’m using my fingers to show her it’s ok to do that. Just one thing you could try to help it stick.

My boys teacher (year 3) has asked me to help with a times table. My boy can fluently count up arithmetically but instant recall out of context isn’t quite there yet. I can see him getting anxious. I’m loathed to press him but I don’t want him falling behind. This not good.

@JB22102120 @mrshawthorne7 Work out what to add to the second number to make it up to 1000. Add first number and new number together then cancel out that extra thousand. I guess it’s a way where students are adding rather than subtracting in their method.
