Processing my current state of exhaustion. As a black woman, presence and visibility go a long way. It means something more to see a black woman in positions of leadership and authority. And along with my visibility, I also need to take care of myself. Trying to find the balance.

it currently feels like 104° in Columbus, Ohio. the private energy company has intentionally cut off the power for many areas including some of the poorest parts of the city. elderly folks are trapped in hot homes, food is spoiling, people are getting sick — this is not okay.

I don't know who needs to hear this but it's pretty obvious to students if you're leading with compassion or if you're leading with ego.

@bmminj I’ve been tracking them daily and checking in later (via remind or email) with students that are hanging out on the low end. This might be easier as a google form even so that it creates a spreadsheet but I like reading it real time.

@bmminj I’ve been trying a scale of “how I’m doing” from 1(lower) to 4(higher) each day in the private chat to me along with a sentence explanation. I’m doing it daily and providing a feelings word bank.

What check-in procedures for virtual synchronous time have been working well for you?
