I just watched this interview of a Korle Bu doctor explaining the strike and I’m honestly angry. Saying lab professionals “don’t have the training to correlate results with clinical findings” is simply false. Clinical correlation is part of our training. It’s exactly why we ask for DIAGNOSIS on request forms. You cannot send incomplete forms with no diagnosis, then turn around and say labs can’t correlate results. ALSO, The claim that labs have been producing “nonsensical” results for 10–15 years is not just inaccurate, it’s reckless. If that were true, we would have system-wide clinical failure, no routine care still functioning across the country. Lab medicine is not guesswork. It’s a regulated discipline built on SOPs, internal QC, EQA schemes, validation protocols and trained professionals who understand both the analytics and the clinical context. And since we’re talking about “why tests are repeated” and “why revenue drops,” let’s not pretend there aren’t other drivers. There are well-known practices where requests are redirected to private labs so that you the prescribers get a commission and we know it all too well and that has to be part of the conversation too. If there are specific cases of poor quality, present the data, audit it, fix it. But blanket statements about incompetence???? After training for 6 plus years I beg to differ! We all want patient safety. That requires accurate testing, proper clinical information and honest collaboration. Not selective narratives that place blame on one group while ignoring the full picture.

The medical laboratory scientists situation is like radiographers telling radiologist not to take scans because they don't have allied health certificate. MD’s can cross trained into other fields like laboratory medicine, radiology and even public health.

If you cross train, that is fine. Then u decide where u want to be… so that if u want to be in the lab, then u are guided by the lab rules… u become a member of the MLS body and so on. People did midwifery and today hv become Drs. They don’t interfere in midwifery activities.

“Pharmacy physician” Chale y’all play too much 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dee💕❤️@deelite

@GH_scofield Good argument but then again, that will decapitate other professions. MDs can actually cross train and specialize in Pharmacy Physician and say we should allow them work at Pharmacies. When it happens, it cripples growth in other professions. They should be clear roles for all.

Residency Training be the ‘3-year top up course’ Herh it’s not worth it even educating you lot 😂 Choose to think what you think.
Radiance 💎🪼@efraimbert

@dr_berkai Does it make sense for someone who has studied laboratory science their entire life and specialized in the field to be subordinate to someone who only completed a three year top up course, and then have that individual validate the results the lab professionals produced?

Medical Doctors vrs Medical Lab Scientists 🙂 The Korle-Bu Doctors Association has threatened to embark on an industrial strike at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital from 2nd May,2026 if a set of demands on laboratory operations and proposed outpatient service reforms are not addressed by the close of Thursday, April 30, 2026. But let’s be honest…where do we draw the line between protecting patient safety and protecting professional territory? What do you think?

This is one of the most useless institutions in Ghana. When the government released recruitment slots, you could only secure 17% of them, while entire batches of graduates from 2020 to 2024 remain at home unemployed. Now a new directive has been issued for mass recruitment, which is supposed to be highly competitive, yet you sit unconcerned. Your main priority seems to be forcing unemployed graduates to renew their PINs almost every year. When the portal was opened, it was widely alleged that politicians hijacked most of the slots. As a result, many highly qualified professionals couldn’t even submit their applications. They are currently lamenting online, but you remain completely aloof, acting as if nothing is wrong. Shame on you.

Ministry of Health Recruitment Exercise Faces Allegations of Irregularities Concerns have been raised over the ongoing recruitment process by the Ministry of Health following reports of technical challenges and unequal access to the application portal. According to multiple applicants, the official recruitment website, previously known as HR.MOH.GOV.GH, was reportedly changed to MOHrecruitment.com without prior public explanation. Applicants were initially informed that the portal would open at 12:00 a.m. on the scheduled date. However, it remained inaccessible at that time, with authorities reportedly announcing an additional three-hour extension before the site became live. Applicants from the 2020–2021 batch of Health Information Officers trained at the College of Health have claimed they encountered significant difficulties accessing the portal. Sources within the batch indicate that only three individuals were able to successfully submit and complete their applications during the period. There are further unverified claims circulating among affected applicants that an alternative or simplified access link was allegedly shared with certain politically exposed or connected individuals, raising questions about fairness in the process. The Ministry of Health has not yet issued an official statement addressing these specific concerns. Such reports have sparked public debate about transparency and equal opportunity in public sector recruitment exercises. This publication presents these accounts as allegations and claims made by affected parties. Further investigations would be required to establish the veracity of these reports.
