I'm just going to toss out here that one lesson from the @sdssurveys Explore interface, among others, is that easing access for citizen scientists often also broadens usability for research astronomers.

If your schedule/budget has no margin then meeting it requires everything to go right, which has literally never happened in the history of any big project ever. This sounds obvious but it’s amazing how much optimism remains baked in schedules, even after so many lessons learned.
