.@NPC_Namibia Director General Addresses Industrial Decarbonisation Programme Workshop
Director General of the National Planning Commission, Kaire Mbuende, delivered the keynote address at Namibia’s Industrial Decarbonisation Workshop, outlining the country’s approach to the Climate Investment Funds’ Industrial Decarbonisation Programme.
Mbuende said the programme gives Namibia access to up to US$250 million in concessional climate finance to support the transition towards low-carbon industrial development and advance the country’s economic priorities under the sixth National Development Plan (NDP 6).
He said the financing facility will support industrial investment, enable projects led by Namibian companies, and encourage private sector participation while reducing pressure on public finances.
According to Mbuende, the programme aligns with targets under Pillar One of NDP 6, which include expanding manufacturing, increasing the contribution of secondary industries to national output, and creating green jobs by 2030.
“These initiatives will expand industrial value chains and position Namibia in emerging green markets,” he said.
Mbuende concluded that the workshop aims to clarify the financing framework of the Climate Investment Funds and align project proposals with national priorities so they can move from concept to investment readiness.

Namibia is anchoring its nuclear energy ambitions on international partnerships and established global benchmarks as it considers nuclear power generation to strengthen energy security and add value to its uranium resources.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Director General of the National Planning Commission, Kaire Mbuende, said discussions around nuclear energy in Namibia are being driven by the need to diversify the mining sector, reduce reliance on imported electricity and capture more value from uranium production.
Namibia is pursuing nuclear power generation as part of a broader strategy to enhance long-term energy security and support industrial development.
