@user_294037729 @haneefulah why is valve catering to a subset that is not only small but also not very tech literate? trying to pass it off to console users is pointless also, they wouldn't care about the size anyway look at the fucking PS5, twice the size and noise and it was still bought by

@haneefulah You are putting your own hopes, wishes and desires on this device. You answered the question but you don't realize it. The Machine is meant to cater to a subset of PC gamers, not the mass market and compete with consoles.

@Real_Jectell @Donkeykang96 @DreddSnail they're selling this to profit, they know exactly what they're doing also the whole discourse about RAM prices is shady, considering they announced it in late 2025, which means they must have already bought the components in late 2024 or early 2025, before the huge price hikes

@rgonz_27 @Black_D_Gamer1 if anyone thinks this 2023 laptop packaged into a 1000 eur cube is "for them" then they should reconsider their financial choices

@NTVDMe @Black_D_Gamer1 You so know Valve has user spec data right? You also know that the steam madchine is better than 70% of their global user base specs, right? Maybe its not for you? Lol, smdh

@AndrewBrooks001 @wwarrior_1 completely different scenarios and products plastering multiple ads on consoles was never the norm anyway, this is a (relatively) new phenomenon that should not be tolerated

@MG4M3R @bee_fumo yeah that is most likely a major factor in their thinking, but that type of rationale usually (not always!) comes with the things I stated above that said, the "safety net" has holes too (DOA, mistakes, rogue employees etc), and really does not excuse functionally bad products

@NTVDMe @bee_fumo Not my point. Buying something off-brand has a number of benefits, one of them being the price like you said, but the responsibility lies with you, which a lot of people don't want to take the trouble to deal with.

@MG4M3R @bee_fumo that's their prerogative, but then going around trashing everything that isn't "branded" and automatically thinking everything that's cheap/unbranded is "bad" is not a good thing

@NTVDMe @bee_fumo Even if the store refunds your money, it's still a time investment that people don't want to make. Between buying the unbranded Nintendo 64 controller and the one from 8bitdo, a person will prefer the 8bitdo even if it costs more because of its reputation.

@MG4M3R @bee_fumo return policies and warranties apply the same if you're buying from a reputable storefront and "brands" can (and do) also sell countless "bad products" without any repercussion; mostly because idiots still buy them without a second thought

@bee_fumo No brand, no responsibility. This is why people are so suspicious of unbranded Chinese products. Having a brand expose its reputation if the product is bad, gives a feeling of security and coordinated and structured action, that someone has something to lose if it doesn't work.

@olivercampbell @remember120212 you quoted your tweet where you explicitly took valve's BS "muh RAM prices" excuse completely at face value, implying that valve indeed did the same thing as you

@remember120212 You show me where I said that. I SAID what I PAID for RAM a year ago, versus the price of that RAM now. And I said nothing else beyond that. I didn't say a single thing about Valve in that. I merely demonstrated that yes, RAM is more expensive now.

I am VERY much so aware of the price of RAM these days. It's my business to know. I bought this ram, as shown, last March for the very machine I type this on. It was $144, that's what I paid. 64gb. This SAME KIT is now $700. A single stick of 16gb is $250.

Valve has LITERALLY SAID that the costs of these things is why it's the price it is. They inferred that they wanted to price it closer to what the current Steam Deck cost is, but these two components being in high demand screwed the plans.

@StarBuZZpro @evileboxyboo @petersaints @HeyItsExi maybe it was back in 2012, but nowadays the chances of them "exploding" (lmao) are very minimal if you're that much of a paranoid premium-piggy then just buy a used "good" PSU or continue to buy overpriced "muh brand" slop

PS5; selling you a console at a loss for the express purpose of trapping you in their ecosystem with a subscription service for online use GabeCube; sold near cost, no ecosystem lock in, no subscription fees, ENTRY level plug and play pc with a custom gaming focused Linux OS
Pirat_Nation 🔴@Pirat_Nation

Linus Tech Tips believes the PS5 offers better value than the new Steam Machine at current prices. According to Linus, a $600 PS5 or $900 PS5 Pro is a better buy than a $1,049 Steam Machine, especially since both PlayStation consoles include a controller. “You can still buy a PS5 for $600 or a PS5 Pro for $900… and both include a controller.” — Linus Tech Tips

@NTVDMe @petersaints @HeyItsExi gamers nexus made an equivalent pc and the only way they could make it cheaper was to use a no-name psu that will explode in 3 hours, and its only like $21 cheaper. Looks like you're the one who didnt look deeper into it

@judgeshowgames It's not really a matter of laziness, it can be a preferable way of hooking up a PC to your living room TV especially since it's so much smaller and some living rooms aren't big enough for the tower to comfortably stand without blocking stuff.

@HeyItsExi This is not near cost. The Steam Machine hardware is essential 2023 entry level gaming laptop hardware in a box. Even with the RAM crysis they have a decent profit margin for sure.

@Black_D_Gamer1 Youre missing the fact that all the people raging at the steam machine arent pc enthusiasts. They are the new normies. PC enthusiasts are buying it, like we buy everything else, to try it out. Because were enthusiasts.
