Is there a God? What can neuroscience tell us about consciousness and perception? Are we morally responsible in spite of determinism? All these questions will be answered on the new Naturalism Next substack! Please subscribe and spread the word naturalismnext.substack.com/p/welcome-to-n…

@PAHoyeck Need to swap Harris and Hitchens. Harris is a ghoul and also a faux intellectual who had basically nothing of substance to say on any topic

@NaturalismPanth I wasn't familiar with the discourse, and found this to be an excellent overview and solid opinion piece.

The 'just don't eat out' discourse between boomers, influencers, and gen Z rages on. In this video, I show how every accusation that boomers make is a confession: they are the least responsible generation - and they engage in massive context denial youtu.be/LbqWcefmtMk

This is the problem with have with Boomers. It’s the denial. They all grew up and took advantage of a post war economic boom. Some weren’t successful but the majority enjoyed a higher quality of life than exists for younger generations today. And in the end all they have to show for it now is an accumulation of Air Miles and mythological tales from their past.
terry l.@dubsndoo

Boomers didn’t buy RVs that they couldn’t afford, we tented it. Boomers didn’t buy new cars, we bought used ones. Boomers didn’t spend six bucks for a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Boomers could hang all their clothes in a four foot closet. Boomers didn’t cry how tough their lives were, we fought through the tough times. Boomers have everything they have because they managed their money, didn’t squander it on frivolous things, and invested it in proven technologies and long term successful businesses. Boomers have zero fucks to give for whiners, fools, and couch potatoes.

There’s this bizarre tendency by Zionists to claim that a literal cabinet minister does not represent Israel’s government, while actions by random Palestinians define the entire Palestinian nation. Funny how that works
Omri Ronen עמרי רונן@omrironen24

Itamar Ben-Gvir does not represent the people of the State of Israel or Judaism or Zionism. He represents hate and division. After the coming election, we will return this country to what its founders contemplated: A free, liberal, and democratic State of Israel advocating true Jewish values.

@sarahsalviander Let’s say suffering isn’t stance independently or objectively wrong given materialism. Suffering is still evidence against theism if *given theism* we wouldn’t expect it to obtain

Yesterday I asked for the strongest arguments in favor of the claim "there is no God." A lot of responses had to do with suffering. Atheists, help me understand why suffering is an argument against God. One thing I don't understand in particular is this: if there is no God, just a materialist universe, then how do you contextualize suffering? What is it? Is it still bad? Please help me understand this.

@drewlevin I don’t think the esoteric minion rule is what is making the game not approachable champ

players: Riot should really care about making the game more approachable and comprehensible to people trying to learn the game those same players: Riot is killing their game yet again by removing an esoteric minion targeting rule that 10,000 people worldwide understand

@WoosterJeeves2 @SpeedWatkins The difference is that the idea behind OP’s argument is that it’s problematic because we lack moral responsibility. In the other case we have it, so the way one argued for the problem looks different to me

@NaturalismPanth @SpeedWatkins idk i think its quite closely related. it is still showing ~C through similar questions "why did god make us with desires that would lead to us going to hell" is the same as "why did god endow us with a character that would lead to us going to hell"

This is a myth. Doing science requires blind faith in 15-30 totally unproven assumptions. Why is it that people who say they love science know basically nothing about it?

@WoosterJeeves2 @SpeedWatkins I think you could say that but it'd be a different kind of argument (why did got create people who'd have the sort of desires that would lead them to hell)

@NaturalismPanth @SpeedWatkins idt even thats right. bc even on compatibilism your choices are in some sense determined so we can ask why god didnt set up the beginning differently. even if im free in the sense that im acting on my desires, on theism god determined those desires and couldve given me other ones

We must admit that the hysteria around the trans issue from the right was incredibly effective at mentally booming an entire generation of men into adopting a completely deranged view of reality and uncritically accepting getting economically shafted over who goes into a bathroom
