@TrentTelenko Ok, so why isn't US Navy sailing into Straits of Hormuz & why is Trump berating allied Navies for not going in, while helpfully suggesting he'll provide air cover? Moskova was sunk by Harpoon missile after having its radar, elec jamming equipment & defences overwhelmed by drones

@DanMulhall @NPR What? That the hard pressed taxpayer, screwed by Trump's illegal War in Iran, subsidise fat cats like hauliers and agricultural contractors?

Our fuel protests are now the 2nd item on US @NPR news. High fuel prices have clearly exposed a raw nerve across the country. There is a need for a calm discussion of how that problem can be rectified, but that cannot happen while the country is being brought to a halt and the law being broken.

@Toibin1 You need to seriously listen to yourself. You, as an elected representative, are engaging as a mouthpiece for a group of individuals who are holding every citizen in this State to ransom. I imagine you would be saying something very different once the schools re-open next week.

I have spoken to the protesters today. They are willing to allow 10 loads of fuel out of Whitegate today for emergency services. This could increase tomorrow if there are positive results from the talks today. The government must engage.

@RealEddieHobbs Who is this 'the people'? The people elect 'the Government' every 5 years. The popularly elected Government might suck but it's nothing as bad as Eddie Hobbs & Declan Ganly & all professional Trumpist malcontents stirring trouble. I think 'the people' had enough of the nonsense

What on earth are Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael doing locking the protesters out of the talks, talks that are meant to be about addressing the fuel crisis.   They  are making an absolute shambles of things - escalating this crisis instead of doing their job. They need to lift the phone, engage with the protesters and hear what they have to say.  The priority has to be ending the protests, getting fuel prices down and doing this as quickly as possible.

@TimothyDSnyder Be honest: doesn't tell us anything beyond confirmation Kremlin cares little for its own soldiers &Ukr has temporarily taken lead in drone warfare & air reconnaissance. Threat to Zaphorizha city is still critical & Rus command will adapt. The war continues until Rus loses will.

Notes from the much larger and more significant war: in March Russia gained no net territory in Ukraine, and lost more soldiers than it was able to replace.

When this is over, the western part of NATO will never be the same. Spain, England, France and Italy have sold us out, as they too often have a history of doing. Eastern European nations are the heart of NATO. They spend money on defense, know how to fight and love the US. France particularly deserves fault and blame. From supporting China and Russia at the UN to denying Americans overflight rights, they’re doing what they’ve always done - showing weakness, while cutting deals with terrorists. (The reason the US has a Marine Corps and Navy is unlike France, we refused to pay a ransom to the Barbary Pirates. France is always happy to cut a deal.) Wars have unintended consequences as nations show their true colors. NATO will never be the same, and Western European weakness and acquiescence is the cause.

@PM_ViktorOrban Who is this 'we' paleface? Hungary is lucky it hasn't had its ass kicked out the door of EU while living off the largesse of net contributors. Further expansion of the European Union will clearly require Treaty change to ensure there are no more Russian Trojan horses

Europe is heading toward one of the most severe economic crises in its history. The world is facing a serious energy crisis. Europe is in grave danger. The only way out is to lift the sanctions imposed on Russian energy. Immediately. We must think not about Putin, but about our own country and our peoples. Instead of warmongering, love and save your country, Donald!
Donald Tusk@donaldtusk

The threat of NATO’s break-up, easing sanctions on Russia, a massive energy crisis in Europe, halting aid for Ukraine and blocking the loan for Kyiv by Orbán - it all looks like Putin’s dream plan.

@John_ForemanCBE Excellent article. Not just drones at sea, or drones from Stettin to Trieste. From Helsinki to Ankara a land based 'Ukrainian-style' drone wall can keep Mr Putin in his box, far better than any half assed coalition of the willing. theloop.ecpr.eu/how-to-monitor…

Enjoyed chatting yesterday with Meelis about some key lessons about surveillance, protection and sea denial for the Baltics from the maritime warfare laboratory in the Black Sea and Gulf.

The lessons of drone warfare from the Strait of Hormuz and the Black Sea are increasingly applicable to the Baltic Sea, according to former British naval officer and diplomat John Foreman, an associate fellow at Chatham House. balticsentinel.eu/8445196/lesson…

@MarkUrban01 The pro-Pahlavi Iran International recently reported last August that an industrial facility at Shahin-Shahr near the Nuclear Technology Centre at Isfahan is in reality a secret prison and labour camp run by the IRGC iranintl.com/en/202508201227

@MarkUrban01 Phew! The 're-obliterated' stockpile of enriched uranium is too deeply buried to matter. Evaporated into the ether after a fit of Presidential peak? Iran has prisoners toiling in mines & quarries working for the 'Prisoners' Cooperative Foundation'. Shovels and picks at the ready

In the hours since I penned my blog last night things have moved on a fair bit in Washington DC but I hope you still read for a sense of the direction of travel and of course that the Iranians may have read recent statements from there as a sign of weakness 👇

@NikTSharma8 @LuisGonMallorca @TrentTelenko Requires leap of imagination, certainly. One does wonder what might have happened if Sanders faced Trump. Democratic Party is stuck on Clintonomics but GOP has moved on from Reaganomics. If US faces a debt crisis, which it must eventually, taxation &welfare won't be up for debate

@Neil8678 @LuisGonMallorca @TrentTelenko No. It's inevitable bcoz current American system can't ever reform itself. It's a vetocracy. Anybody can block everything but nobody can pass or do anything. In US, raising taxes or cutting entitlement programs is impossible. Any politician who wud even say so will get voted out.

The SCOTUS has already ruled that any US President can withdraw from any defense treaty with any nation for any reason. The US Executive branch's power on this point is absolute and unchallengeable under the US constitution. SCOTUS Receipt ⬇️

Trump legally can’t withdraw from NATO without Senate’s approval & there is no chance he will get one. But … there is nothing to stop him from making NATO essentially meaningless & letting everyone understand this.

@TimothyDSnyder In fairness I think that's a conspiracy theory too far. Yes the outcome of dropping sanctions on Russian energy probably suits the Administration's wider agenda, but to suggest the disaster that the US finds itself in the SoH was an elobarate gimmick is pretty far fetched.

@NikTSharma8 @LuisGonMallorca @TrentTelenko Anything is possible, nothing inevitable. US is capable of reforming its way out of crisis. Americans pay too little in tax with huge social costs:less investment in people; poverty; plutocracy &insufficient tax base to cover current expenditure on tick from the mighty Greenback

@LuisGonMallorca @Neil8678 @TrentTelenko Dude I am totally on your side. I misread that and thought that you were a MAGA American troll and smuggedly replied to you. That's why I said that even though EU can achieve unity, US debt crisis, and therefore the end of American Empire, is impossible to avert.

@NikTSharma8 @TrentTelenko US aggression is not limited to Europe. China is clearly a bigger priority. Summit with Xi, I think, was originally designed to allow Trump to swan into Bejing with Venezuela and Iran under his arm. Instead the summit is delayed, might even be cancelled if US is damaged

@Neil8678 @TrentTelenko I know that. However it's all speculative n EU leaders still can't let go emotionally of US even when it has shown that it wants to do nothing with Euros. EU can't always suck upto US n appease it. There has to b a fundamental, irreversible resetting of relationship from EU side.
