No they really were not. Even if Paul's 7 'authentic' epistles are authentic, the only core beliefs that are present in those are Jesus' resurrection and the salvation in faith in his return. But many of the German philologists who dated the entire corpus of the New Testament to post 70 are now being taken back up again, as Professor Nina Livesey and Jack Bull have been publishing on the probablility that Paul's letters are all forged in the 2nd century due to the nature of the Greek dialect, syntax and grammar being closer to 2nd sophistic style (Lucian, Philostratus, et.c) Greek than 1st century Greek.
