There were no Ash’arīs or Māturīdīs among the Four Imāms: Abu Hanīfah (d.150), Mālik (d.179), Shāfi’ī (d.204) and Ahmad Ibn Hanbal (d.241H). Also the Ash’arī and the Māturīdī sects appeared well after Bukhārī (d.256) and Muslim (d.261) so they are from the later deviated sects.
