@BrighamTomco It’s TDS for the boomers and some Gen X. It’s the tolerance of all the gay stuff for the millennials and some gen Z. And for the rest of us it’s the general disdain for GOP politicians who always cave to the left after we get them into office.

OK, so what's the truth about Latter-day Saint political affiliation? Over the past two decades, the share of Latter-day Saints who identify as Republicans has fallen by 10% — from around 68.5% (2007-2010) to 57.5% (2022-2025) — with the loss evenly split between increases in Democratic affiliation & no affiliation. Latter-day Saints went from being the most Republican-leaning religious group in the country ... to being the 2nd most, behind white evangelicals. In 2025, GOP affiliation sill outnumbered Democratic affiliation by a 40-point margin among Latter-day Saints. What's the big deal? Latter-day Saints were the only religious group where the GOP lost its advantage over those 20 years. Every other group (except for atheists) moved in the opposite direction, erasing Democrats' decadeslong domination over partisan affiliation. Why? Brad Jones, the author of this @YouGovAmerica analysis of Cooperative Election Study data (and a BYU grad), said it could be Latter-day Saints' high rate of college education playing into the educational polarization that has defined the Trump era of American politics. Quin Monson, a BYU professor who wrote the book on Latter-day Saint politics, said another explanation for dissatisfaction with the GOP among some Latter-day Saints could be a perceived conflict with teachings about civility, compromise and the Constitution. Turning Point Action COO Tyler Bowyer, a Latter-day Saint who runs Charlie Kirk’s campaign operation, said criticisms from prominent Latter-day Saint politicians may have led to a temporary aversion to the GOP of Donald Trump, which is now being reversed. Logic only exists as a non material idea in your mind. These guys just basically admit their God is imaginary but they just use more words to do it.

My Boomer Auntie, who is a very loving and kind hearted person is a Democrat that hates Trump and MAGA with a passion and attended a recent #NoKings rally. To her, loving people means letting illegals stay, increasing food stamps/welfare, giving tax dollars to poor countries, and taxing the “rich” to fund all programs. When I try to explain to her how her ideals actually hurt people, she dismisses it as right wing propaganda. No amount of evidence or reasoning will persuade her to consider any other viewpoint. I’m convinced there was some sort of brainwashing drug that was administered to Boomers and activated during COVID. Either that or there was something seriously wrong with their LSD supply.

@LDS_Dems It shows an enormous lack of empathy to actually believe people vote against their interests just to screw over someone they don't like... Just because someone thinks a particular policy is better for the country doesn't mean they dislike the people who might benefit from it.

There is a great book called Dying of Whiteness that posits that white americans will deliberately choose policies that create self harm as long as they believe people they don't like are being harmed as well. For example:

Joe claims here that if 1 “what” can have 0 “who’s”… like with a rock… And, if 1 “what” can also have 1 “who”… like with a human… Then, it is logical to accept that 1 “what” could have 3 “who’s”… in the case of God. That might seem clever if you are desperate for the Trinity to make sense. But it doesn’t actually logically follow. If some physical entities (i.e. rocks) do not possess consciousness… And other physical entities (i.e. human bodies) do possess consciousness… It does not logically follow that there’s a non-physical being possessing three separate consciousnesses at once. (You also have just admitted that your God is ultimately a “what” and not a “who.”) What’s your take @ThoughtfulSaint?

I’m almost there. In 4 more days, I’ll have gone 1 entire year w/o chocolate, bread, or pasta. Chicken, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, avocados, blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, protein powder, & hearts of palm have completely transformed my life for the better.

@KintsugiJin @VVenerabilis 25 mins just isn't enough time, especially when everyone socializes for 15 mins between classes. 3 hours may be too long for high traffic buildings like in AZ (3-5 wards), but maybe they go to 2.5 hours...
