You’ve probably heard the saying, “No amount of evidence will ever persuade an idiot.” What is a good example of that?

This is what happens when your history stretches back thousands of years Inside an H&M store in Rhodes, Greece, two ancient stone structures sit behind a low barrier among the clothing racks, preserved exactly where they were found... During renovation work, construction crews discovered the remains of an ancient building beneath the floor. Under Greek archaeological law, they couldn't simply remove them. H&M worked with the Greek Ministry of Culture, followed every conservation requirement, and built the store around the ruins instead. The island of Rhodes has been inhabited since around 4000 BC. The city itself was founded in 408 BC, when three ancient city-states united to build a single capital at the island's northern tip. What followed was layer upon layer of civilization — Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, the Knights of St. John, Ottoman, Italian, and finally modern Greek — each one building on top of, or directly into, whatever came before... This is why finding ancient ruins beneath a shop floor in Rhodes is not a surprise. It is just Tuesday. As an H&M spokesperson put it: In Greece, history is very often part of everyday life, quite literally built into the foundations of modern cities and buildings.
