The hard truth about housing and homelessness is that they aren't problems we can tax and spend our way out of. So long as we have a shortage of housing, there will be homelessness, and so long as it's illegal to build more housing in most of the city, there will be a shortage.

Public health officials know full well that homeless encampments are the primary source of this deadly disease outbreak. Yet the official interviewed in the TV segment urges viewers to take basic precautions that do not address the actual problem. It’s depressing to watch places that were once the envy of the world descend into squalor.
