I’ve always lowkey believed that taxation should be based on consumption rather than production. If someone makes say $250,000 then they’re producing more than that for the company they work for. I don’t see why they should be taxed on this production. However, if they go out and spend that entire $250,000 on goods and service services, I think those should be taxed because you’re now consuming. So if someone is spending four times as much, they should be taxed four times as much. I really like the fair tax act that’s been proposed several times which would essentially hike the sales tax but completely eliminate the income tax and add a prebate so that super low income people are not negatively affected by the higher sales tax.

If taxes were fair: You earn $100,000 per year and pay $30,000 in tax. Your neighbor earns $1,000,000 and pays $300,000 in tax. Your neighbor is paying 10X more than you. If taxes were fair, you should both pay $30,000, since you both receive the same government services.

@jimmysoldout When you move out of a rental property, you get no money back. Your rent is gone. (except for the security deposit) When you move out of your house, you get all of the money back that you put in when you sell it, you get your mortgage payments back (minus interest)
