Dear Friends, I am at a loss for words how to express my gratitude and any one who knows me knows I always have words. An anonymous doner is donating a very large amount which will put us over our fundraising goal. We will keep the GiveSendGo page up for now as some others have expressed interest and desire to donate. Any further donations at this point will go toward hospital and travel expenses as such, we are grateful for any further contributions. If this donation comes through it will put us over the hump. All other expenses can be financed and paid off over a longer term which is possible for us to accomplish. As of today I will no longer be posting "Memes for Natasha". The bank is processing things so it will be another couple days before its official and anything shows in the accounts. I wanted to conduct things as transparently as possible though, when it does we will update the givesendgo page to reflect the total amounts. I just want to say thank you to everyone who has helped us. There has been a lot of crying in our home the last two weeks as we have been stunned by the generosity and kindness of our fellow man. Your reposts and prayers really made a difference, our large doner friends wouldnt have found our cause without them. Even the smallest donations fill me with a deep sense of gratitude. We will never forget this. What I thought was going to take months to accomplish has (hopefully) been accomplished in less then a week and a half. Our children will be tought about you. Someday when we are on better financial legs we will give as has been given to us. In the meantime, I will post updates on the surgery when possible so that we can show the good you all have done for us. You have given a family a chance, helped our efforts to preserve a life, and made the world a better place by keeping my better half in it. A blessing on each of you! The D2D fee they are imposing is interesting to look at from an outside perspective. Holding the thousands if not millions of books on a server does have a cost. The real cost though is reputation. I imagine the 100$ per year is a strong cuttoff for most casual writers. This does two things. 1 Helps the company stop losing money. 2 Forces higher quality content. I feel for anyone who was using them and now needs to stop because they dont make enough from their books to avoid a fee. But from a business perspective it makes much sense. Also, $100 royalty over a year shouldnt be such an enormous hurdle. If you are struggling to make even that much off of your books it might be time to reevaluate your marketing strategy or simply be happy with Amazon services. Two large moves this will make in the industry: 1st, D2D will become more trusted as a brand on the consumer end. More clients will be more willing to use them for distribution and stock. 2nd, More people who dont sell well will go to Amazon. Effectively making it possible that Amazon will become known as the "no filters, quality crapshoot" filterless brand. While D2D becomes known for at least avoiding the bulk of poor quality. Yes, some good quality books may get left out. I find this unfortunate. But it will filter out a lot more low quality content then not. This is ultimately a gatekeeping measure more than a money one. Indie writers hate gatekeeping of any form so there is a small maybe on if this will succeed or if they will fail due to user loss. Thats doubtful though.

My phone was looking all washed out and hard to read. It was driving me crazy. I tried turning on my bluelight filter to see if it would make it easier. Turns out it fixed it entirely. I've had my blue light filter on inadvertantly for months if not years and got used to it.

Lowkey tempted to do a weekly livestream/podcast covering all the drama writing X gets into on a regular basis. But I'd burn too many bridges making jokes. I get in enough trouble as it is.

@lethomp6_author I agree that the industry as a whole is predatory in many ways. But I dont think this particular move is intended that way.

@NoahRayWrites What I mean is authors that are already struggling or brand new know they won’t have a chance there so they’ll flock away. And some of them are good. It’s not just people who produce trash that are on a budget. I think there’s too much picking of author’s pockets as it is.
