BREAKING: Donald Trump's week starts off with nightmare news as Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes requests access to Special Counsel Jack Smith's case file on his election subversion prosecution. And it gets even better... "Today, my office has one of the only remaining cases that includes charges against national actors," Mayes wrote in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland. "I have held steadfast to prosecuting the grand jury’s indictment because those who tried to subvert democracy in 2020 must be held accountable." Mayes stated that she previously requested access but was denied. Now that Smith's case has been dropped, she is once again asking for access. "Undoubtedly, disclosing Special Counsel’s file to my office will help ensure that those who should be held accountable are," she added in her letter. Those in her crosshairs include Trump's White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and MAGA goon Rudy Giuliani. There are 16 defendants in total accused of charges stemming from efforts to subvert the election in Arizona as well as the Republicans who submitted a false document to Congress declaring Trump the victor in Arizona in 2020. Although Trump himself is not a defendant in the case, he is referred to as "unindicted co-conspirator 1" in charging documents. Because Arizona has a statute of limitations of seven years on most felonies, there is a scenario in which Trump faces state charges in the final year of his upcoming presidential term — leaving him little time to pull the levers of power to save himself.
